国际英语资讯:Algerian FM stresses coordination of regional countries to tackle common challenges

ALGIERS, June 5 -- Algerian Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel said Monday that the countries of the region have to maintain continuous coordination to face together challenges when he held talks with visiting Egyptian and Tunisian counterparts.

"The situation in Libya and the importance of permanent coordination at the level of Libya's neighboring countries, particularly Algeria, Egypt and Tunisia, were on the agenda of the talks," Messahel told the press about his meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

"We have discussed the situation in the region, amid emerging threats such as terrorism, organized crime and illegal migration," Messahel added.

The Egyptian foreign minister said his talks with Messahel dealt with "ways and means to boost and reinforce bilateral relations in all fields," specifying that the situation in Libya was at the core of the talks.

Other regional issues were also discussed, especially counter- terrorism, the Palestinian issue and the situation in Syria and Yemen, said Shoukry.

The talks were held ahead of a tripartite meeting of the three ministers to discuss the situation in Libya following recent security deterioration, which began Monday through Tuesday in the Algerian capital city.
