LONDON, Nov. 5 -- Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League with a two-point lead over Chelsea and Liverpool thanks to a 6-1 win over Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
Pep Guardiola's side produced a polished performance, led by David Silva and Raheem Sterling to lead 4-1 at halftime and to show once again they are the team to beat in England.
Chelsea moved into second place on goal difference as the much-criticized Alvaro Morata took advantage of the injury to Olivier Giroud with two goals in their 3-1 win over Crystal Palace. Pedro Rodriguez netted Chelsea's third goal to give the win a distinctly Spanish flavor.
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp complained about a first half goal incorrectly ruled out for offside in his side's 1-1 draw away to Arsenal, but can still feel satisfied that Liverpool retained their unbeaten record in one of the toughest away games they will face this season.
Arsenal's Unai Emery can also reflect that his side performed well in a thrilling game and that they are unbeaten in their last nine league games.
Their only defeats this season came against Manchester City and Chelsea in the opening matches of the season and the fact that Arsenal are now able to trade blows with Liverpool shows how they have improved since Emery's arrival at the Emirates Stadium.
Tottenham moved above Arsenal into fourth place thanks to a 3-2 win away to Wolves, but were made to suffer in a game they had been leading 3-0 thanks to goals from Eric Lamela, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane.
Two penalties allowed Wolves back into the game and the closing minutes saw backs to the wall defending from Mauricio Pochettino's side to claim and important win.
Ander Herrera came on as a second half substitute to add bite to what had been a previously lackluster Manchester United midfield and help to inspire a 2-1 win away to Bournemouth which came thanks to an injury-time goal from Marcos Rashford.
Bournemouth had been the better side in the first half and opened the scoring through Callum Wilson, only for Anthony Martial to equalize before the break. Herrera's entry into the match allowed Jose Mourinho's side more control, but the result was still in the balance until Rashford got on the end of Paul Pogba's cross.
Elsewhere, Everton continue to creep up the table following a 3-1 win at home to Brighton, while West Ham got back to winning ways with a 4-2 victory at home to Burnley and Newcastle United climbed out of the bottom three after Ayoze Perez's second half goal gave them their first win of the season, 1-0 at home to Watford.
Finally Leicester City's players showed their character as they won 1-0 away to Cardiff City just a week after club owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and four others lost their lives in a helicopter accident.
Demarai Gray scored the only goal of the game and was then booked for removing his shirt to show a message for the man who inspired Leicester's title win two seasons ago. Referee Lee Probert has been criticized for booking Gray at such an emotional moment, but Probert's body language (he visibly winced when Gray took his shirt off) implied the referee would rather than not booked the forward and that the current rules gave him no option.
