祭祀官身着礼服，严肃认真地对猪圈里的猪进行说服教育：“你们完全不必怕死。我会对你们非常礼貌而且尊重。我将花三个月的时间来好好喂养你们。祭祀前十天，我还要沐浴斋戒;前三天，我将戒食酒肉。祭祀时，你们的前后肘将会放在精美的礼器中，并垫上散发芬芳的茅草。这是伟大而庄严的时刻，你们应该为自己能参与这样严肃的仪式而感到自豪。”
