里约“奥林匹克休战墙”揭幕

8月1日，意在促进世界和平的“奥林匹克休战墙”在里约奥运村设立。国际奥委会主席巴赫表示，休战墙在今天具有的意义和古代是一样的，在这个充满战争和危机的年代，世界比以往更需要和平、团结为代表的奥林匹克价值观。

The Olympic Truce Wall was unveiled in the Olympic Village of the Rio Olympics on Monday, four days before the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Games.

8月1日，在距离里约奥运会开幕还有四天的时候，奥林匹克休战墙在里约奥运村设立。

"The Olympics Truce is as relevant today as it was in ancient times. In the world of crisis and war, more than ever, the world needs the Olympics value of peace and solidarity," said International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach.

国际奥委会主席巴赫表示，“休战墙在今天具有的意义和古代是一样的，在这个充满战争和危机的年代，世界比以往更需要和平、团结为代表的奥林匹克价值观。”

"This Olympics Truce is where all of us can show our support for the Olympics Truce and the principals it represents.”

“这个奥林匹克休战墙是我们所有人对奥林匹克休战及其代表的和平原则表达支持的地方。”

Olympic Truce就是“奥林匹克休战”，truce指的是a state of peace agreed to between opponents 或者a cessation of all hostilities；那么“宣布休战”就是declaration of truce，与其意思相近的还有ceasefire，这两个词都表示“暂时停火”；armistice则表示参战双方达成正式的“停战协议”，寻找其他解决冲突的方法。

奥运村里设立的“休战墙”更准确的表达应该是Olympic Truce Mural，因为这面墙并不是空白的墙，而是绘有代表奥林匹克停战精神艺术图案的墙，mural这个词指的就是绘在墙面或者天花板等固定物体表面的艺术作品。运动员们可以在墙上分享有关和平和友谊的想法（share their messages of peace and friendship by writing on the wall）。

Olympic Truce（奥林匹克休战）这个传统要追溯到公元前9世纪古希腊时期。当时的停战协议规定，希腊各城邦不管任何时候进行战争，不允许侵入奥林匹亚圣区。即使是战争发生在奥运会举行期间，交战双方都必须宣布停战，准备参加奥林匹克运动会。停战期间，参加奥运会的运动员、艺术家及其家属，以及前往奥林匹亚朝圣的人都能在绝对安全的情况下出入该地区。

1992年，国际奥委会和联合国根据奥林匹克休战原则联合提出倡议，允许前南斯拉夫的运动员参加巴塞罗那奥运会。2000年7月，国际奥林匹克休战基金（International Olympic Truce Foundation）创立，旨在通过体育和奥运精神促进和平（promoting peace through sport and the Olympic ideal）。

奥林匹克休战的标识由和平鸽（dove of peace）、奥运圣火（Olympic flame）以及奥运五环（Olympic rings）组成，代表全世界各个种族的人一起遵守休战原则。
