大家有没有装饰过自己的房间？比如，在床头上放一盏香薰灯，在书柜上摆几个陶瓷模型、把电影海报贴在墙上，过节前贴窗花、挂灯笼等等。装饰品可以使房间的整体氛围变得更加舒适、有个性。刚才 David 提到的两个单词“ornament”和“decoration”被翻译成中文后的意思相似，都有“装饰物”的意思，但它们所指的“装饰”类型和具体用法有一些区别。

首先，一件“ornament”或“decoration”都可以用来装点事物，从而使其变得更好看。但是，“ornament”多强调“无实用功能，只起美化作用的物品”。比如，可收藏的小型雕塑、摆件等。在表达这层意思时，ornament 做可数名词。来听几个例句。

Examples

The collector’s shelves are crammed with wooden and porcelain ornaments.

这位收藏家的柜子上摆满了木制和瓷制的装饰品。

He lives in a minimalistic room with no ornaments and barely any furniture.
