Mario

the bet without hesitation. However, he wasn’t sure how to test

第部分:阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项 (A,B,C和D)中,选出最佳选项。 “When I was a little boy, I loved the night sky. I remember looking up and the sky was filled with stars. I became an astronomer because I was amazed by their beauty,” says Robert Gent, “Now in most big cities kids can’t see the stars like I did.”
Normally, about 2,500 individual (单个的) stars are visible to the human eyes without using any special equipment. But because of light pollution, you actually see just 200 to 300 and fewer than a dozen from some cities. Only one in three Americans can see our own galaxy with the naked eyes. Those people live far away from the lights of big cities, office buildings, and shopping malls.
Fortunately, there’s an inexpensive and useful way. If we shine lights down at the ground instead of up into the sky, and use lower brightness levels, we can save big amounts of energy and keep the beauty of the night sky. Many cities and towns have passed laws limiting lights at night, making sure enough shine for safety without creating much light pollution.
Light pollution affects more than our view of the heavens and can harm wildlife. Migrating birds (候鸟) sometimes fly over cities and become confused by the brightness, flying in circles until they drop from exhaustion. Sea turtles need dark beaches for nesting and won’t approach bright lights. Too much light at night may even affect human health. For all these reasons, researchers are working on ways to use lights only when and where they are truly needed. Everyone deserves to look up at the sky.

54. Which would be the best title for the text?

One of the hardest things to do when you are a small child is to start school, and have new teachers every year. I remember when I was in fourth grade, there were tons of rumors(谣言)about my teacher. They said that he would hit kids with erasers. Nothing_could_be_farther_from_the_truth,and to this day I still remember him as one of my favorite teachers, and one of those people who really helped me in life.
One of the things that you can do to help your kids get ready for a new teacher is to go to meet him or her before the year starts. Most teachers are going to be setting up the classrooms before the start of the year. This allows students to know who the teacher is,and break the ice.
It is common for students to be fearful of the teacher for the first few days. Maybe they look scary. However,as a parent, you need to teach your kids that teachers
are people too,and that they want nothing but the best for you in life.
If your child is still having trouble adjusting to (适应)a teacher, you could ask your child to be taught by a different teacher. Some kids just don’t like the teacher that they have for some reasons, and would probably do better with another teacher. If so,see if you can do something to have another teacher to teach your child.

One rainy day, Hank, one of my regular customers, came in looking sad and defeated. I asked what the problem was and if we could help, but Hank wouldn’t tell me any details. He just said he felt like going to bed, pulling the sheets up over his head, and staying there for a few days. I knew exactly how he felt.
Before he left, I handed him a bag of his favorite type of doughnuts (炸面圈) along with his iced coffee. He looked at me skeptically because he hadn’t ordered anything else except iced coffee.
“It’s on me,” I told him. “Have a nice day.”
He smiled and thanked me before turning around and heading back out into the rain.
The next day was a horrible one. The rain kept pouring down and I spent my afternoon hanging out the window, handing people their orders. What’s worse, no one felt like tipping (给小费) that day.
However, around 7:00 pm, Hank drove up to the window. Instead of ordering anything, he handed me a single pink rose and a little note. He said that few people take the time to care about others nowadays and he was glad there were still people like me in the world. I was speechless and very touched; I hadn’t thought that I had done anything incredible.
The note read:
Christine,

Adele might not be a typical role model. She used to smoke and drink a lot, and she swears (说脏话). But this ordinary London girl has attracted the hearts of millions of people with her extraordinary music.
The 24-year-old singer and songwriter became an instant success in 2008. Her songs of heartbreak that featured in both of her best-selling albums 19 and 21 – her ages at the release times – have brought tears to the eyes of her fans. People can relate to her feelings of loss and regret after a difficult breakup.
Despite not releasing an album this year, Adele has had a great year. She was named Entertainer of the Year by The Associated Press for her influence on the entertainment industry and culture in 2017. She also won six Grammy Awards in February and sang the theme song for the latest James Bond movie, Skyfall.
However, the world nearly lost her voice. This successful superstar faced hardship after a big year in 2017. She got a bleeding throat.
It was a huge blow to her. “Singers are vocal (发声的) athletes—it’s the same as an American football player having a knee problem,” her doctor Steven Zeitels told the BBC.
In many ways, the worst part for Adele was how quickly the news developed. Rumors like “She will never sing again!” and “She wanted to kill herself!” soon spread.
Adele cried a lot. “But crying is really bad for your vocal cords (声带), too!” she recalled in an interview with Vogue magazine.
To get her voice back, she followed the doctor’s strict orders after operation. So, Adele cut her favorite curry from her diet and gave up drinking and smoking.
The toughest aspect of her recovery was forced silence. Adele could not talk for a large amount of time until she found a phone app that translated her typed words into speech.
“I found this one app where you can swear,” she told CBS’s program 60 Minutes.
At this year’s Grammy Awards ceremony, Adele announced that her voice was back, stronger than ever, by performing loud her hit single Rolling in the Deep.
“I burst into tears when I found out,” she told Vogue, “that I would love, absolutely love, to win.”
To conclude the year of 2017, Adele also topped Forbes’ list of Brightest Music Stars Under 30.
The magazine said she was “attractive, surprising and incredibly hard-working”.
67. Why were so many people crazy about Adele?
A. Because she likes smoking.
B. Because she likes swearing.
C. Because she is beautiful.
D. Because she made outstanding music.
68. Adele’s success in 2008 was that
.
A. she was very famous
B. her albums 19 and 21 were sold the best
C. she was highly praised by one magazine
D. her fans liked her very much
69. Which of the following is not the harvest that Adele made in 2017?
A. The Associated Press named her Entertainer of the Year.
B. She sang the theme song for the movie, Skyfall.
C. She awarded six Grammy Awards to other singers.
D. She was excellent in Forbes’ list of Brightest Music Stars Under 30.
70. What is the most difficult thing for Adele in recovering?
A. Giving up smoking.
B. Giving up drinking.
C. Cutting her favorite food from her diet.
