I can’t agree more with what you said. That many students are suffering mental problems also worries me. It’s a fact that we face more and more mental pressure in our life, which, in my opinion, everyone will meet in their life.

Some students are so worried about exams and academic achievements that they can’t fall asleep at night. Some are discouraged and tend to lose their confidence because of constant failure in exams. Others can’t get along well with their parents or with their classmates. They always feel stressed and easily get angry.

As a matter of fact, there’re many ways for us to deal with our mental problems. First of all, we can turn to our teachers for help, including our teacher of psychology. Second, communication is of vital importance. When we have a talk about our problems with our friends or classmates, we can feel greatly relieved. Last but not least, we need to develop a positive attitude towards our studies and our life. With the mental problems removed, we will keep in normal mental health and study happily.

Each new school year brings fresh reminders of what educators call the summer learning gap. Some call it the summer learning setback.Put simply,it means the longer kids are out of school, the more they forget. The only thing they might gain is weight.Recent studies show that children gain weight more quickly in the summer vacation than when they are in school.

Most American schools follow a traditional ninemonth calendar.Students get winter and spring breaks and about ten weeks of summer vacation. Some schools follow a yearround calendar. They hold classes for about eight weeks at a time, with a few weeks off in between. But many experts point out that the number of class days in a yearround school is generally the same as in a traditional school.

Last year,a study at Ohio State University reported that yearround students did not learn any more than other students.Lead researcher Paul von Hippel said “yearround schools don’t really solve the problem of the summer learning setback. They simply spread it out across the year”.

Across the country, the research shows that students from poor families fall farther behind over the summer vacation than other students.Experts say this can be prevented. They note that many schools and local governments offer the programs that can help.

But calling them “summer schools” could be a problem. The director of the summer learning center at Johns Hopkins,Ron Fairchild, recently wrote about this issue on his blog.

He said that in American culture, the idea of the summer vacation is connected to the beliefs about freedom and the joys of childhood. He said a research on groups of different parents in Chicago and Baltimore found that almost all strongly disliked the term summer school. They said it created an image of children being forced to do work they missed during the school year.

knock at one’s door敲某人的门。]

as像……

  18.A [without fail

根据第一段中的“Each new school...”

由第四段中“He studied hard in school and was saving money for college by working as a dishwasher in a local restaurant in his spare time.”

由第三段中“...,but at the last minute, her shift(换班)at the hospital had been changed to see her son’s performance.”

由本句前句中的“Penny bent over the senseless boy”和下一段的“After his recovery”可以推出revived的意思为“苏醒; 醒了过来”, 与senseless(昏迷,没有知觉)相对。]

It is common for us to see teenagers, even little kids, riding a skateboard in public places nowadays.

In my opinion,it is very dangerous for them to do so,though it is good for their health.First, skateboards go too fast to be controlled properly, especially for little kids. Thus, they may do harm to people around them and hurt themselves badly.Second, there are so many people and cars in public places,so if young people go skateboarding there,it could cause traffic jams and traffic accidents.

My suggestion is that this activity should be limited to a special area and no one should be allowed to ride a skateboard in public places even if they’ve been welltrained.I also suggest that parents should accompany their kids when they are riding a skateboard.
