　　本题考查考生基本词汇量和短语的掌握情况。水深火热在英文中没有一个对等词，所以要采用意译法。可以接受的译法有：a dire suffering，an abyss of suffering，extreme misery。Be plunged into表示使......陷入，使......遭受，如：plunge a country into war;plunge sb. into deep sorrow。另外，前半句中careworn意为受折磨的，饱经忧患的。

　　2. theory be combined with practice
