　　双重所有格

　　1. 双重所有格表示部分关系

　　a friend of Jennys 珍妮的一位朋友

　　a favorite of my fathers 我父亲的最爱之一

　　2. 双重所有格避免和限定词冲突

　　下列单词是限定词，其前后都不可有名词的所有格，所以必须采用双重所有格：a, an, the, this, that, these, those, each, every, any, some, either, neither, no, another, several, enough, much, many, more, most, such。

　　that friend of my fathers 我父亲的那位朋友

　　any friends of my sons 我儿子的任何朋友

　　this watch of my uncles 我叔叔的这块手表

　　3. 双重所有格表示感情色彩

　　this lovely child of your sisters 你姐姐的这个可爱的孩子

　　that big nose of Davids 戴维的那个大鼻子

　　4. 双重所有格与of结构表达不同的内涵

　　He is a friend of my husbands. 他是我丈夫的一个朋友。(强调我的丈夫的朋友不止一个)

　　He is a friend of my husband. 他是我丈夫的朋友。(强调他对我丈夫的友好)

　　独立所有格

　　在我国的英语语法学界通常把独立所有格理解为所有格后面名词的省略。

　　1. 使用独立所有格能避免重复

　　This doll is my sisters.(避免doll的重复)这是我妹妹的洋娃娃。

　　Johns is a very large family.(避免family的重复)约翰的家是个大家庭。

　　I am using my car. Youll have to borrow somebody elses.(避免重复使用car)我正在用我自己的车。你得去借别人的。

　　2. 在不引起误解的情况下，可以使用独立所有格

　　Whose is that? Thats Marys. (当面对话，不会产生误解。)那是谁的? 那是玛丽的。

　　3. 所有格名词后的营业场所如商店，旅馆，事务所，戏院，学校，医院，教堂常被省略，这种独立所有格常在介词at或to之后;若在场所、建筑之前加上the，其后的s多半可以省略

　　我得去看牙医。

　　I have to go to the dentists.

　　I have to go to the dentist.

　　我在理发店遇见一位老朋友。

　　I met an old friend at the barbers.

　　I met an old friend at the barber.

　　4. 谈到主人和客人的关系时，代表主人的所有格名词后的house通常省略

　　I had a lovely evening at Peter and Helens (house). 我在彼得和海伦家过了一个愉快的夜晚。

　　注意，以下的house不能省略，因为句子中没有表示主人和客人的关系：

　　My uncles house is at the foot of the hill. 我叔叔的家在山脚下。
