(1)Its well worth trying.(不能说very worth)这很值得一试。
(3)Shes fast asleep.(不能说very asleep)她在酣睡。
We are much beholden to you for your help.(不能说very beholden)我们非常感激你给我们的帮助。
(4)He felt quite sure of the appointment.
(5)Im much afraid of snakes.
它们可以和much或very much连用。例如:
(1)The two brothers are very much alike.
(2)He is very much alive.
(1)The financial situation seems to be much/very much improved.(不能说very improved)财政状况似乎有很大好转。
(2)Britains trade position has been much/very much weakened by inflation.
(3)Ted was most surprised when he heard the news.
(1)a very frightened animal
(2)a very complicated problem
(1)We were all very shocked by the news about Tony.
(2)I am very pleased to hear it.
The theory sounds quite convincing. 又如:不能说very screaming(尖声喊叫的),children必须使用像这样的词continually or loudly screaming children;singing birds也不可说成very singing birds等等。very只可能和已转用为形容词的现在分词连用,例如:very interesting(很有趣),very exciting(非常令人兴奋)等。
(1)His name is well up in the list.
(2)He was treated quite fairly.
动词也不和very连用,要用其他副词,如much/very much和 quite等修饰。例如:
(1)I should much like to come.
(2)They closely resemble each other in appearance.
(3)By doing so you will greatly oblige us.
(4)He is well grounded in the English language.
