一、afire 的用法
1. 燃烧着的(If something is afire or is set afire, it is on fire or looks as if it is on fire.)，作表语。例如：
The house is afire. 房子着火了。
My skin was presently afire. 我的皮肤在发烧。
作宾语补足语。例如：
The sun has already set, leaving the sky afire with orange and green light.
作后置定语。例如：
They looked at the ship afire. 他们望着燃烧中的船。
2. 异常激动的(If someone is afire with emotion, they are extremely enthusiastic and excited about something)，作表语。例如：
Sydney is afire with Olympic enthusiasm.
作宾语补足语。例如：
Arizona has plenty of stupendous sights that set the senses afire. 亚里桑那州有很多摄人心魄的名胜。
作后置定语。例如：
Eyes afire, he rushed out of the room. 他眼里射出怒火，蓦地冲出房间。
二、afire的搭配
1. be afire。例如：
The city was all afire. 全城火光冲天。
2. set sb/sth afire。例如：
Lovers’ ire sets love afire. 恋人的盛怒反使情火更烈。
The wooden ship could easily be set afire.
3. afire with joy[desire for holy deeds, jealousy, curiosity, enthusiasm，patriotic love等]。例如：
She was afire with enthusiasm.她热情如火，激动万分。
politicians afire with patriotic love 满怀爱国热情的政治家
