Today, Mr. Yang walked into the classroom with a smile on his face and said to everyone, "it's a lucky day - I picked up a burning handkerchief in the morning!" After hearing this, there was a commotion in the classroom and everyone was talking about it. Some said, "Miss Yang must be cheating!" Some said, "yes! Yes! There is indeed a burning handkerchief! " At this time, Mr. Yang said, "if you don't believe in doing an experiment, how about it?" "Good! Good! " The students said in unison.
So Miss Yang began to do the experiment. First, she took out a handkerchief with a picture of a cute little white rabbit on it and put it into a mixture of 70% alcohol and 30% water. After being soaked, the teacher took out the handkerchief, put it into another prepared basin, and lit a match again. As soon as the flame on the match touched the handkerchief, the whole handkerchief was immediately surrounded by the fire. I saw that the fire was running higher and higher, and the fire tongue was a foot high! At this time, I saw the "little white rabbit" on the handkerchief "struggling desperately" in the raging fire. The more I saw it, the more I felt hurt. I really hope the fire would go out soon. Suddenly a strong smell of alcohol came to my nose - it was Miss Yang who put out the fire. Then Miss Yang showed us the handkerchief again, "ah! In good condition! " Some people exclaimed in surprise, "ah! It's amazing! " I can't help thinking. When we were surprised and puzzled, Mr. Yang gave the answer. It turns out that alcohol is flammable, while water absorbs heat. In the process of combustion, water absorbs heat and separates fire from handkerchief, so that handkerchief will not be burned.
Ah! Science is wonderful. I must study hard to explore more mysteries of science!
