飞机上的陌生人

People are good.

人性是善良的。

Today on my flight to Denver,

今天我乘飞机前往丹佛市

the pilot announced that they were expecting some turbulence as we descended.

当飞机准备降落的时候，驾驶员广播通知乘客，我们可能会遇到气流

A woman in the rear of the plane was afraid of flying

坐在飞机后排的一位女士很害怕乘飞机

and became very anxious after this announcement.

听到这则通知十分焦急

The flight attendant re-seated her in the front

空姐把她的座位调到了飞机前部

where it’s usually less bumpy.

在那里，震感会少一些

She sat in a middle seat across from me.

她坐在我斜后方三排座椅中间的位置

The strangers on each side of her could have responded to her fears by ignoring them

坐在她两边的陌生人本可以对这位女士视而不见，任由她去慌张

or being irritated at the inconvenience of

也可以因为她带来的不便心生不悦

having a tall lady in a big bulky white coat sit in the empty seat between them.

But, instead,

可是，恰恰相反

they immediately reached out to welcome her

他们立刻探身去迎接她

and help her feel comfortable.

还帮她调整座位，让她坐得舒服些

They held her hands

他们握着她的手

and talked to her quietly for the remainder of the flight!

轻声跟她说话，直到这趟旅行结束。

My faith in humanity has been renewed.

我又开始相信人性了！
