In this programme, I thought I'd impress you with an old Chinese phrase that we use in English now.

The phrase is jiggery-pokery.

Jiggery-pokery? Oh, come on! 拜托，这哪儿是中文啊？That's not Chinese!

It is – everyone in China uses it, apparently.

I don't think so. What does it mean, anyway?

‘Jiggery-pokery’ refers to dishonest behaviour that is intended to trick people.

原来，单词“jiggery-pokery”的意思是“骗局、诡计”，我们在口语中用它来表示“不诚实的，欺骗他人的行为”，也就好比汉语里的“骗人的伎俩”。Oh, hold on, were you trying to trick me just to illustrate this phrase?
