英军增兵填补伦敦奥运安保缺口

Britain’s armed forces are to provide an additional 3,500 troops for security duty at the Olympic Games, amid fears that a private security company will be unable to supply all the guards it was contracted to deliver.

In a development that has caused fury at the top of the Ministry of Defence, the armed forces will provide the extra troops on top of 13,500 personnel it had already agreed to supply.

With just a fortnight to go to the games, ministers have concluded that G4S, the world’s biggest security group, will be unable to supply all the 10,000-plus guards it promised. The ministry has acknowledged it will have to deploy 16,500 troops at the games – 7,000 more than in Afghanistan.
