Amazon Studios announced Monday that it has acquired global television rights to the Lord of the Rings franchise, based on the best-selling novels by J.R.R. Tolkien.

亚马逊工作室13日宣布，已经买下J•R•R•托尔金畅销小说《指环王》系列的全球电视剧版权。

据外媒报道，2017 年《指环王》系列前传《霍比特人》第三部拍摄完成后，华纳兄弟（Warner Bros.）电视部就试图将这个魔幻史诗系列搬上电视。该项目吸引了HBO 、网飞（Netflix）等不少大牌竞争者，但其中最志在必得的便是亚马逊工作室（Amazon Studios）。

在电视剧方面，亚马逊此前虽然也出品了不少优质作品，但始终没有一部标志性剧集，能够与 HBO 的《权力的游戏》（Game of Thrones）、《西部世界》（Westworld）以及网飞的新晋超人气剧集《怪奇物语》（Stranger Things）等分庭抗礼。

The Amazon LOTR series will be produced in-house at Amazon Studios alongside the Tolkien Estate and Trust, publisher HarperCollins and Warner Bros. Entertainment's New Line Cinema. A writer has not yet been attached.

剧版《指环王》将由亚马逊工作室与托尔金遗产信托公司、哈珀柯林斯出版集团以及华纳兄弟旗下影业公司New Line Cinema联合制作。目前，编剧人选还没有公开。

Amazon's LOTR series will be set in Middle-earth and explore new storylines preceding Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring.

电视剧背景设定在中土世界，将接着托尔金的《护戒使者》展开新的剧情。

亚马逊新任系列剧部门主管沙伦•塔尔•尤加多（Sharon Tal Yguado）表示：

Amazon has yet to reveal a release date or who might feature in the TV adaptation.

The film version - which was released over three years between 2001 and 2003 - had a star-studded cast including Elijah Wood, Sir Ian McKellan, Orlando Bloom and Liv Tyler.

Many fans of the books and films appeared sceptical about the news of a TV version.
