It's a story as old as love itself: Boy meets girl; boy accidentally shoots girl after mistaking her for a deer while high on drugs; girl falls in love with boy.

Audrey Mayo says she had known Matthew Webb for a few weeks before he shot her in the leg and nearly killed her, but it was on that fateful day that they officially became a couple.

奥黛丽·梅奥说，在马修·韦伯开枪射中她的腿几乎让她丧命前，她认识马修已经有几个星期了。而就在那个悲惨的日子里，他们正式成为了情侣。

Mayo, 24, and Webb, 23, both of LaFayette, Georgia, were hanging out on the roof of Webb's mom's house when Webb allegedly spotted some deer.

He quickly grabbed his trusty semi-automatic carbine and headed into the woods. A short while later Mayo says she thought she heard Webb call out to her, asking her to bring him his knife.

She walked across the street toward his location, and let out a "half yell" so as to not "scare the deer away." Webb mistook Mayo's movement for a deer and fired a single shot.

The next thing Mayo knew, she was waking up in a hospital bed with Webb sitting beside her.

接下来梅奥所知道的就是她在医院病床上醒来，看到韦伯坐在她的床边。

Audrey's mom Mary, who works as a nurse at another hospital, thought her daughter was a goner. Even surviving could mean permanent brain damage.

奥黛丽的母亲玛丽是另一家医院的护士。她以为女儿多半是活不成了，就算活下来也会有永久性的脑部损伤。

"Once we realized she was alive — and that she was going to be alive — we started to lighten up a little bit," Audrey's sister Rachel said.

“当我们意识到她还活着，而且能幸存下来，我们也开始觉得稍微轻松点了。”奥黛丽的姐姐瑞秋说道。

Mary even let Matthew move in so he could help take care of Audrey during her recovery period.

奥黛丽的母亲玛丽甚至让马修搬进家里，能让他在奥黛丽恢复期里帮忙照顾女儿。

Though the family refuses to hold the incident against Webb, the local authorities are not so forgiving.

尽管奥黛丽一家不会对韦伯进行指控，但地方当局却没那么宽容。

He was arrested on charges of firing a gun within 150 feet of a road. He also faces several hunting violation and drug charges after admitting he was high on "several illegal drugs" at the time of the shooting.

韦伯因在距道路150英尺范围内的射枪的指控而遭逮捕。韦伯承认射击时他嗑了药，而这也使他面临着几项违反狩猎规则和使用毒品的指控。

Audrey, however, insists the two will continue to give their love a shot. "It's like a modern version of how a caveman used to bash a woman over the head with a club," her sister is quoted as saying. "These days, they just shoot her in the leg."

而奥黛丽却坚称，两人将坚持他们的爱。“古代穴居人都是把女人一棒子打晕拖进洞里，”奥黛丽的姐姐表示：“现在他们都改用枪了。”
