中国男子纽约跳桥自杀 警察老乡用方言将其劝下

A NYPD officer used his native Cantonese language to save the life of a suicidal Chinese man who was threatening to jump off a bridge on Monday afternoon.

一位纽约警官在周一下午，用他家乡的广东方言劝下了一位试图跳桥自杀的中国人。

Officer Yi Huang rushed to help his colleagues when they discovered the despondent man, who was teetering on the edge of New York’s Verrazano Bridge, only spoke Chinese.

当警察们发现了这名在纽约费雷泽诺桥边缘发抖的中国人只会讲中文时，黄一警官赶过来支援他的同事。

During four hours of tense negotiations, Huang discovered that the man was from his hometown,Taishan in China's southern Guangdong province, according to the NYPD.

根据纽约警方的描述，在经过4个小时紧张的交涉后，黄一发现这名男子来自于他的老家，广东省南部的台山市。

When responding officers realised that the man did not speak English they called Huang, who managed to arrive at the scene quickly and begin his efforts to coax the man to safety.

当先前的警官发现这名男子不会说英语时，他们立即找来了黄一。黄一即刻抵达了现场并且开始劝说该男子回到桥面上的安全地带。

As a crowd of policemen and bystanders looked on nervously, Huang spoke to the man, who was distraught over fights he was having with his 18-year-old daughter as well as financial struggles.

在围观警察与旁观者的注视之下，黄一开始与这名男子谈话，了解到他可能是被经济原因和与18岁女儿的争吵搞得心烦意乱，所以想自杀一了了之。

Relating his own family’s experience, Huang urged the man, who is in his 30s, to look to the future and think of his daughter getting married and meeting his grandchildren, police said.

Huang was shouting to the man from the roadside which is 10 -15feet from the beam. If Huang came any closer, the man threatened to jump into the water about 400 feet below, police said.

Officers closed down the bridge, which connects Staten Island to Brooklyn, as the hours-long negotiations continued. Shortly after 4.30pm as a thunderstorm threatened, the man decided to let officers rescue him from the ledge.

He was uninjured but taken to Staten Island University Hospital for a check up, according to NYPD.

Huang moved to Manhattan's Chinatown when he was four-years-old and now patrols the streets in the 5th Precinct.
