SYDNEY, Jan. 6 -- Julia Goerges of Germany retained the WTA Auckland Classic title by beating Canada's teenager Bianca Andreescu on Sunday at Auckland, Australia.
Goerges came from one-set down to nail down the match 2-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Her 18-year-old opponent almost made another upset after the world No. 152nd player earned a berth in the main draw from the qualifying tournament.
She beat former world number ones Caroline Wozniacki and Venus Williams on her way to the final and was just one game away from the final victory as she led 5-4 in the second set.
Goerges broke Andreescu at 5-5 to take the crucial second set and cruised to her 15th WTA title after an easy third set.
