CARACAS, May 27 -- Representatives from the Venezuelan government and the oppositon will have a second round of talks in Norway's capital Oslo, seeking to ease the political standoff in the Latin American country.
Serving as a mediator, the Norwegian government announced the new round of talks will be held this week, after the two sides' initial round of meetings took place in Oslo earlier this month -- an effort designed to break months of stalemate in Venezuela.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Soreide said the talks will involve face-to-face meetings, but no further details on the date and content are currently known.
"We're going to show our good faith, based on a comprehensive agenda agreed by the parties, in finding peaceful, democratic solutions to Venezuela's crisis," Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said in a televised address.
While the opposition remained skeptical, Maduro said his government would respect the rules of the negotiation framework established for the Norway talks and criticized some opposition people lied to the country in some "unbridled statements."
Maduro also requested his delegates be well self-restraint in the meeting, calling for the Venezuelan people's "all support."
