日本著名漫画家、《樱桃小丸子》原作者樱桃子，于当地时间2018年8月15日因病与世长辞，享年53岁。樱桃子走好。谢谢你让我们认识“樱桃小丸子”！

Momoko Sakura, the creator of the much-loved “Chibi Maruko-chan” manga and anime series about a little girl called Maruko, died of breast cancer on Aug 15, her company said Monday. She was 53.

著名日本动画片《樱桃小丸子》的作者樱桃子8月15日因乳腺癌去世，终年53岁。她所在的公司于27日发布了这一消息。《樱桃小丸子》系列漫画作品深受人们喜爱，主角是一位名叫小丸子的小女孩。（注：樱桃子为笔名，作者原名三浦美纪）

The funeral has been already held, with only family members and close friends in attendance, the firm said in a statement posted on its website together with an illustration of Maruko and her friends.

公司在其网站发布声明说，樱桃子的葬礼已经举行完毕，仅有家人和密友参加。声明还附上了小丸子和朋友的插图。

Sakura, who debuted as a manga artist in 1984, started the “Chibi Maruko-chan” series in the August 1986 issue of the monthly manga magazine Ribbon.

樱桃子在1984年以漫画家的身份出道，并于1986年8月在《丝带》漫画月刊中开始连载《樱桃小丸子》系列漫画作品。

《樱桃小丸子》是以她的童年（昭和49年，即1974年）生活为蓝本的故事，其中的一事一物均充满着70年代的怀旧气息。

The series proved to be extremely popular and in 1990 it was made into an anime series, which also became a big success and still continues to this day.

这一系列推出后广受好评，在1990年被制作成动画片，也取得了巨大的成功，并延续至今。

《樱桃小丸子》是全球知名度最高及最具影响力的动漫作品之一。在1990年至1992年，《樱桃小丸子》第一次动画化，于富士电视台播出，并曾于1990年10月28日达到39.9%的收视率，在1991年9月26日成为有纪录以来日本史上最高收视的动画。

此外，她也推出过漫画《Coji-Coji》、小品文《桃子罐头》等，同时樱桃子也是动画《樱桃小丸子》主题曲的曲作者。

The first theme song of the series, “Odoru Ponpokorin,” became a hit, selling more than 1.73 million copies in 1990.

动画片的首支主题曲《大家来跳舞》风靡一时，其唱片在1990年的销量超过173万张。

“I feel so sad about her demise, which came too early. But the bright smiles of Maru-chan and her friends will keep shining in the minds of readers ranging from kids to adults,” wrote Soichi Aida, the editor-in-chief of Ribbon, in a statement posted on the magazine’s website.

《丝带》漫画月刊总编辑相田聪一在杂志网站上发布了声明，其中写道：“对她的离去，我感到非常难过，这一切来得太早。但是，樱桃小丸子和朋友们愉快的笑容会一直留在读者们的心中，无论你是孩子，还是大人。”

2017年7月27日，为庆祝《樱桃小丸子》25周年，日本静冈铁道推出“樱桃小丸子主题列车”。

出道30周年时，樱桃子曾表示：“在这30年间，不论是美好的事或艰辛的事都有很多，但大家都让我作为作家过了非常幸福的时光。光是感谢仍不足以形容我的心情。”

The last blog post by her was dated July 2. It was about the advancement of the Japanese national football team into the knockout round of the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

樱桃子最后一篇博客是在7月2日发布的，讲的是日本男足冲进了俄罗斯世界杯淘汰赛阶段，取得了进步。

“I wonder if it’s lucky for them to advance into the (knockout part of the tournament). Anyway I want them to hang tough in the game against the Belgian team,” she wrote.

她写道：“我不知道他们冲进淘汰赛阶段算不算幸运，但不管怎样，我希望他们在迎战比利时队时要顽强不屈。”

According to local media reports, the production team of the hit series has stated their intention to continue the series.
