Scholars saddle up for ride

Young people astride horses and dressed in traditional Chinese costumes were spotted at a park in Xiangyang, Hubei on Thursday. They turned out to be students with top gaokao scores. A local culture park in the city awarded 10,000 yuan to each of the province's top students in arts and science in this year's national college entrance exam, while another 6,000 yuan was given to the student who placed second in science. The procession drew numerous spectators, and while some thought it was funny, others believed it was just grandstanding, for the poor students to get attention.
