Leaders of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are meeting in Beijing. There, they are reviewing the body’s achievements over the past decade, as well as planning strategies for the future.

All leaders of the delegations have their group photographs taken. President Hu Jintao also delivered a speech at the summit, expanding on China’s proposals for the SCO’s development over the next decade.
President Hu Jintao said, "We are facing a world in flux, but we have coped with many challenges: from the wars in Afghanistan and in Iraq, to the international financial crisis and west Asian and north African ongoing turmoil that’s challenging peace and development. At the same time, we’ve been following a path of peaceful development. Together we embody the "Shanghai spirit," and carry with us a dedication to peace and friendship. We have created a new model for regional cooperation, and have together seen a series of great achievements. We continue to work together to fight terrorism, separatism and extremism, drug trafficking and organized crime across state lines. And we work to maintain security and development interests, while safeguarding regional peace, security and stability."

President Hu and other SCO member countries’ leaders are also discussing ways of expanding economic cooperation. He says China will do what it can to provide more financial assistance to other member states, beginning with a loan of 10 billion US dollars to support economic cooperation within the SCO. The loan will also be used to promote the development of SCO members.
All leaders of SCO member countries witnessed the signing of ten agreements to further promote cooperation within all member states.
