愚人节，似乎是为了给爱恶作剧的人们一个“大展身手”的机会。

April Fool's Day is traditionally a day to play practical jokes on others, send people on fool's errands, and fool the unsuspecting. No one knows how this holiday began but it was thought to have originated in France.

传统上来讲，愚人节这一天，人们可以相互搞恶作剧，骗人跑腿，欺骗不知情的人。没人知道这个节日是怎么来的，但人们普遍认为它源自法国。

Play jokes on sb 开某人玩笑。除此以外，make fun of sb; play a trick on sb皆可表示开某人玩笑的意思哦，但是要注意后面介词的不同~

April Fool's Day是愚人节的表达方式，这边的fool很显然是名词啦，表示愚人。

send people on fool's errands，errand是“差事、使命“的意思，这里意译为骗人跑腿，直译就是派某人去做愚蠢的事。因此这边的fool是形容词，“愚蠢的“意思。

fool the unsuspecting这里译为欺骗不知情的人。可见，这边的fool是动词哦，有“欺骗，愚弄”的意思。

想必，大家都了解了吧，fool有名词、形容词、动词三种词性呐!

In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII ordered a new calendar (the Gregorian Calendar) to replace the old Julian Calendar. The new calendar called for New Year's Day to be celebrated Jan. According to a popular explanation, many people either refused to accept the new date, or did not learn about it, and continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April 1. Other people began to make fun of these traditionalists, sending them on "fool's errands" or trying to trick them into believing something false. Eventually, the practice spread throughout Europe.

首先什么是jackass呢? jackass有“公驴、愚人、傻子”的意思哦~

美国有一个综艺节目，就叫做Jackass, 中文翻译过来就是蠢蛋搞怪秀。You Jackass，是省略用法，省略了be动词are，意思是“你是个傻蛋”，一般用于口语中。

说到这里，会不会想起万圣节，据大家所知万圣节同样也是一个整人的节日哟，万圣节很重要的标志性东西——南瓜灯jack-o'lantern。

那为什么又出现了jack这个单词呢?

原来根据典故，爱尔兰有个名叫Jack的男子，某天，他和恶灵在酒吧喝酒，两人酒足饭饱后却没钱付帐，Jack将恶灵禁锢起来，经过恶灵苦苦哀求，Jack要求其答应一整年都不能骚扰他才「放鬼」。

没想到后来Jack不幸去世，进不了天堂只好去地狱求恶灵收留，恶灵认为是Jack自己说不要再有瓜葛，所以拒绝接受Jack的请求，只私给他一块烧红的木炭让他放在大白菜内当灯笼照明，后来苏格兰小孩有样学样，也挖空大白菜放蜡烛点灯。

这个习俗传到美国后，人们发现圆圆胖胖的的南瓜更适合当空心灯笼。所以自然就变成南瓜的天下，南瓜灯也成为万圣节最应景的道具之一。
