　　1. His glowing descriptions of a classless society where anyone could attain success through honesty and hard work fired the imaginations of many European readers.

　　【译文】他生动地描述了一个不分阶层、人人平等的社会，在那里人人可以通过诚实、辛勤的劳动获得成功，这种描述一下子唤起了许多欧洲读者的美好想象。

　　【析句】比较简单的复合句。主句His glowing descriptions of a classless society fired the imaginations of many European readers, 主语是个名词，a classless society后where anyone could attain success...作定语从句。

　　2. Every American who hopes to make it also knows the fear of failure, because the myth of success inevitably implies comparison between the haves and the have-nots, the stars and the anonymous crowd.

　　【译文】每一个希望成功的美国人也了解失败的痛苦，因为成功神话的背后不可避免地意味着富人与穷人的比较，明星人物与平凡者的比较。

　　【析句】复合句。主句Every American also knows the fear of failure, 主语every American后有who引导的定语从句。主句后，because the myth of success implies comparison between...作原因状语从句，解释主句中knows the fear of failure的原因。

　　3. These symbols of distinction assure us and others that we believe strongly in the fundamental equality of all, yet strive as hard as we can to separate ourselves from our fellow citizens.
