　　 Supervisor Bill Postmus tried to make the best of it all in his invocation: Thank you for taking us out of the difficult times that we've had in the past, Lord.

　　 原译:行政官员比尔伯斯特默斯充分利用当前形势 在祷告中表示:感谢你是我们走出曾经有过的艰难时期,上帝。

　　 改译:县管委会委员 比尔伯斯特默斯在祷告中借机表示:上帝,感谢你使我们摆脱过去的艰难时期。

　　 点评:原译的问题就出在对短语make the best of的理解上。没错,它的意思是充分利用(时间、机会等),但并非充分利用当前形势,而是充分利用祷告的机会,故改为借机。

　　 1、supervisor:如果不了解这个人,很难决定是行政官员还是县管委会委员,可惜作者并没有说到这个词他是如何确定下来的。
