牛津实用英语语法:131 请求许可

　　A can I could I， may I，might I都可以用于现在时和将来时，其中can I是最不正式的用法。

　　could I?是四种用法中最为普遍有用的一种。它既可用于正式的请求中，也可用于非正式的请求中。

　　may I?要比could I?稍为正式一些，但也通用于正式及非正式的请求中。

　　might I?与 may I?不同。它没有 may I?表现得那么自信。它表示比较胆怯，同时对回答比较没有把握。

　　B 否定疑问式 cant I?和couldnt I用来表示说话的人希望能得到肯定的回答：

　　Cant I stay up till the end of the programme?

　　我不能一直呆到节目结束再去睡吗?

　　Couldnt I pay by cheque?

　　我可以用支票付款吧?

　　may和might不能这么用。

　　C 对于 can I?/could I?这种请求的回答通常是：

　　Yes， you can.

　　是的，你可以。

　　Yes，of course(you can).

　　(你)当然行。

　　No， you cant.

　　不，你不行。

　　对于 may I?/might I?这种请求的肯定回答通常是：Yes， you may.

　　是的，你可以。

　　Yes，of course(you may).

　　(你)当然可以。

　　用否定回答 No，you may not(不，你不行)是可以的，但通常用比较婉转的句式来代替：

　　Id rather you didnt.

　　我希望你不这么做。

　　Im afraid not.

　　恐怕不行。

　　D 询问是否允许时，现在时用 can或 am/is/are allowed to;过去时用 could或 was/were allowed to：

　　Can Tom use the car whenever he likes?

　　汤姆能随时用车吗?

　　Is Tom allowed to use the car?

　　允许汤姆用车吗?

　　Could students choose what they wanted to study?

　　学生可以任意选择学习科目吗?

　　Were students allowed to choose?

　　允许学生任意选择吗?
