Over the years

多年来

our family has experienced some very good times

我们一家人一起度过了许多非常欢乐的时光

and we've had some very tough times too.

但我们也曾度过艰难的日子

It's been during the tough times

在艰难的日子里

I've witnessed the world working

我看到世界如何运转

and I've learned to trust.

我学会了信任别人

One particular day during a tough time

在一段艰难时期，曾有那么一天

I had a phone call

我接到一通电话

that someone had died.

有人去世了

I needed to make several long-distance phone calls

我需要打几个长途电话

to let other people know.

让其他的人悉知此事

This was going to be expensive

这得花费一大笔钱

because back then

因为那个时候

we had to pay for every long-distance call we made.

我们得为打过的每一通长途电话付钱

It wasn't very long

没过几天

before a friend happened to stopover.

已经有一个朋友过来拜访我

Before I had a chance to mention to her

我还没机会告诉她

about all these long-distance calls I needed to make

she said,

"I stopped over

我来拜访

because I was given these prepaid phone cards today.

是因为今天有人送给我几张充值电话卡

I came over to give these to you."

我来把这些卡送给你

Wow, these phone cards were exactly what I needed!

天呐，这些卡片正是我需要的！

Now,

你瞧

this may seem like a little thing to most people

对于大多数人来说，这可能只是一件小事

but on that day

但是在那一天

it was a big thing for me.

这对我却是一件大事

It was during that time I learned the maxim ,

正是在那时，我读到了一句箴言

"They do not fear bad news;

他们对坏消息无所畏惧

they confidently trust life to care for them."

他们信心满满，相信生活会料理好一切

After this particular experience,

这件事之后

along with many others,

还有许多类似的事情

I have been learning

让我慢慢学会

to confidently trust life to care for me.
