PARIS, June 10 -- Jelena Ostapenko won her maiden Grand Slam trophy at the 2017 French Open here on Saturday.

The 20-year-old unseeded Ostapenko, the first Latvian player to make into the Grand Slam tournament final, beat the No. 3 seed Simona Halep of Romania 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

After the final loss, Halep failed to climb atop WTA world rankings.
