MaryVerdi-Fletcher was born with spina bifida (脊柱裂), a disease that causes weakness in the legs and spine. Undiscouraged, she was not about to be told what she could or could not do. She believes that someone who is an artist is an artist from the day he or she is born. She dreamed of dancing and was determined to make her dream a reality. While still young, Verdi-Fletcher ?dancinge in her wheelchair ?enteredw a dance competition with a friend. They won the first prize. She entered and won more competitions, refusing to listen to people who said to her “You can’t dance if you’re in a wheelchair” or “Dancing in a wheelchair is not really dancing”.

However, Verdi-Fletcher was not satisfied with personal success alone. She wanted to make dance available to others with disabilities. In 1980, she founded a dance company called Dancing Wheels. Based in Cleveland, Ohio, Dancing Wheels performs all over the world. In productions like “The Snowman”, sit-down dancers perform with stand-up dancers. Modern lighting designs, fantastic sets(布景) and props(道具), wonderful music, and festive (喜庆的) costuming draw audience members into fairy tales and other stories.

In one show, a young stand-up dancer named Devin played “The Brother Who Cannot See” while a young sit-down dancer named Jenny performed the role of “The Sister Who Cannot Walk ”. It was a lovely way to express a theme Verdi-Fletcher has represented all through her life: We all have disabilities. In ancient China tea was probably used as a relish(佐料) and as a medicine. Tea was first prepared with boiled water as a medicine around 2,700 BC in the western mountains of China. Tea was likely seen as healthy in part because it was made with boiled water, which is safer to drink in an area of polluted water. Tea drinking, and commercial(商业的) growing, spread during the Tang Dynasty, 618-

907, especially after Lu Yu, a Buddhist monk(佛教僧侣), wrote a book on the value of tea, Cha Ching. Tea gradually became one of the seven basic necessities of Chinese life (The others are fuel, rice, oil, salt, soy sauce (酱油), and vinegar (醋).) A Japanese Buddhist priest, Saicho, is believed to have introduced tea to Japan, when he returned from a visit to China in 805. In Japan tea drinking was considered medicinal, and became closely connectedwith Zen Buddhism(禅宗). Tea drinking also spread to Korea and Southeast Asia, and was taken over the Silk Road to Central Asia, Russia, and the Middle East. Dutch (荷兰) explorers became familiar with tea in the 1590s and were soon importing(引进) tea to Europe. In 1657 the British East India Company held the first public sale of tea in England, while that same year Thomas Garraway began offering tea at his London coffee house. In 1662 tea received a big boost(推进) in England when the Portuguese Catherine of Braganza, married King Charles II and introduced tea drinking to the British court (宫廷). Gradually, the British fell in love with tea, and with the sugar that went in it. In 1665, less than 88 tons of tea was imported to Great Britain. By 1700, it had increased to 10,000 tons of tea, ranking (位居) first in Europe. In 1768 the East India Company imported 10 million pounds of tea to Britain. 63. Tea has been used as a medicine in China for _________. A. about 8,000 years牋牋?B. about 5, 2,700 years牋牋?C. sedabout 4,700 years牋牋?D. 4,7about 2, 200 years

My dad left me a treasure when he died. It wasn’t a house or a car. It wasn't cash or gold. It wasn’t bonds(债券) or bank accounts. In the eyes of the world my Dad died a poor man. He was a simple mechanic (机修工) who worked hard to support his family. My Dad's treasure rather was in a thousand wonderful memories that he gave me over the course of his life.

One particular treasure stands out in my mind today. I was just a boy playing in the backyard of my dad’s friend's house while my Dad spent the whole afternoon under the old car trying to get it running again. It seemed to take hours and I wasn't sure he could bring the ancient auto back to life again this time. At long last, though, he closed the hood (引擎盖)and turned the key in the engine. There was a sweet smile of satisfaction on his face as the engine started. There was a joy in his eye when he shook his head and refused to accept anything for his work. And there was quiet happiness in his voice as we drove back home that day. This memory made a home in my heart and became a priceless pearl (珍珠) for my soul to cherish.

Time and time again my Dad showed me that a good life, a kind life, a giving life and a healthy life was created one choice at a time. Not all of his choices were the right ones, but most of them were. He did the best he could. He lived the best he could. And he helped to bring out the best in me too. As I look back into that treasure of memories my Dad left me, I realize that each one of them inspired me to live and to love: one choice at a time.

How do you build a better world: one choice at a time. How do you live a long life: one choice at a time. How do you make Earth more like Heaven: one choice at a time. May all of your choices be driven by love, inspired by joy, and guided by God. And may all of your choices bring memories of happiness to those around you.

  七、写作范文:

In life we can hardly do without friends. Friends are an important part in our lives. Why? As we know, life is not easy. There are many difficulties and problems we can't overcome through our own efforts alone. We need friends to support and help us out of them. Also, we need friends to share our joys and sorrows.

There are many kinds of friends. However, what is true friendship? As the popular saying

goes, "A friend in need is a friend indeed." True friends are those who never desert you when you are in trouble. They will offer you practical help sincerely and unselfishly even at the cost of their own interests. What's more, they will encourage you to stick to what is right and to avoid doing what is wrong or illegal.

It is lucky enough for everyone to have some true friends. But how to maintain such true friendship? I think it is of great significance for us to learn the art to get along with our friends such as being honest to each other, listening to the inner hearts of each other and leaving each other some freedom. What’s more, when conflicts occur, communication is a good choice to break the ice.
