According to vet Dr Rikesh Suresh Patel, dogs tend to eat funky smelling things like underwear - thanks to their strong sense of smell.

Dr Rikesh Suresh Patel is a vet surgeon in Wallasey for Vets4Pets - the company who carried out the survey.

He said: “The weirdest thing I’ve encountered is a rat teddy bear, it was sort of a bear with a rat’s head.

"Luckily this dog had swallowed it whole and it was really soft so we could retrieve it rather than doing major surgery.“

Cats eat pretty things like tinsel and shiny items. However dogs love to explore, you can’t leave something lying around without a dog wanting to eat it.
