Puppies are cuddly bundles of energy and cuteness who also need special care as they start to explore the world. Here, the American Veterinary Medical Association offers caregiving tips for puppies:

First checkup: Puppies should be vaccinated starting at 6 weeks. Also learn what signs of illness puppies can display, as they are especiallysusceptible in their early months.

Tracking: Is your pup's ID tag up to date? Be sure it has your current contact information.

Household hazards: Pup-proof your home, keeping poisonous chemicals and food secured well out of reach. Remember that many "people'' foods are toxic to dogs including chocolate, onions, avocados, and many more.

Potty training: Establish a housebreaking routine and stick with it to help lessen the chances of accidents. Reward your pal whenever he makes it outside for the bathroom.

Play time: Make it a point to regularly exercise your puppy. It helps keep him (and you) healthy and happy.
