A film biopic will reportedly immortalise on screen the first date and first kiss of America’s first couple, Michelle and Barack Obama.

The film’s title, Southside With You, refers to the part of Chicago where a young Michelle Robinson and Harvard law student Barack Obama kindled romance on a summer afternoon in 1989.

Tika Sumpter, a model-turned-actress who has mostly been seen on the small screen, is an executive producer on the project and is slated to play Michelle Obama, according to Deadline.com.

In the summer in question, Obama was working a summer job as an associate at Chicago law firm Sidley Austin. As legend has it, he tried extremely hard to woo one of the firm’s fierce lawyers, Michelle Robinson.

According to Deadline.com, Richard Tanne (Worst Friends, The Roman) is set to direct the independent feature from his own screenplay; former Warner Independent executive Tracey Bing and indie producer Stephanie Allain (Hustle & Flow, Beyond the Lights) are producing for Allain’s company Homegrown Pictures.

Names for young men to play the audacious young Barack have yet to be floated. Contenders could include the likes of actor and rapper Drake or up-and-comers such as Michael B Jordan and Grantham Coleman. Obama’s Saturday Night Live imitator, Jay Pharoah, certainly has the president’s voice down. Music legend Diana Ross’s son Evan, an actor and musician, could also be a fit.
