奥巴马光顾Gap商店 细心为妻女购衣物

President Obama made an unannounced stop at a Gap store in midtown Manhattan on Tuesday to buy some clothes for his wife and daughters and make a pitch for increasing the minimum wage.

The President was seen picking through pastel sweaters, khaki pants and workout clothes at the store on 42nd St.and 3rd Ave. before attending two Democratic Party fundraisers in the city.

奥巴马在前往纽约参加两场民主党筹资集会前，突然出现在曼哈顿东42街和3大道角上的Gap商店，为妻子和女儿选购衣物，包括柔软的毛衣、卡其裤以及运动服等。

"I’m here at the Gap because it never hurts to bring something back home — I get points,” he joked while sifting through the garments among roughly 20 shocked customers.

Carlene Whitney, a hotel housekeeper from Queens, described herself as simply "amazed" after bumping into him.

"He said 'today is a beautiful day to be in New York’. He shook my hand. I was amazed. He's more handsome in person. Very sexy," she gushed.

Obama decided to shop at the Gap to spotlight the company's new policy of paying entry level employees more than the minimum wage.

"It's not only good for them and their families, it's also good for the entire economy," Obama said. "I want to congratulate the Gap for doing the right thing."

He pointed out that the minimum wage is not just going to teenagers; the average age of a minimum-wage earner is 35. Obama has asked Congress to approve an increase in the national minimum wage to $10.10 an hour from $7.25, but Republicans are reluctant to go along.

The President paid $154.85 for his purchase, which included a light blue workout jacket for Michelle — size medium — and two button-down sweaters for his daughters, one coral and the other light pink.
