英国拟发行丘吉尔头像英镑纸币

Sir Winston Churchill will be on Britain’s new 5 notes, the Bank of England announced on Friday.

英国央行(BOE)周五宣布，温斯顿·丘吉尔爵士(Sir Winston Churchill)将会出现在新版5英镑纸币上。

The new notes will feature a photograph of the wartime prime minister and his famous words “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat” alongside a view of Westminster. In the picture, Big Ben’s hands will point to three o’clock – the time at which Churchill said those words on 13 May 1940.

新的纸币上将印有这位战时首相的照片，并且在威斯敏斯特（英国议会大厦）图片边上印有他的名言“我能奉献给你们的，只有热血、辛劳、眼泪和汗水。”图中，大本钟(Big Ben)的指针将指向3点钟，也就是1940年5月13日丘吉尔说这句话的时间。

Sir Mervyn King, governor of the Bank of England, announced the new note yesterday at Chartwell, Churchill’s former home.

英国央行行长默文·金爵士(Sir Mervyn King)昨天在丘吉尔的故居查特韦尔(Chartwell)宣布了这款新纸币设计。

“It seems entirely appropriate to put Sir Winston on what is probably our most popular note,” he said in a speech. “Perhaps the note itself will become known as the Winston.”

他在讲话中称：“将温斯顿爵士的头像放到英国最常用的纸币上，似乎是完全合适的。或许这种纸币将被称为‘温斯顿’。”

The BoE said the plan was for Churchill to feature on new ·5 notes to be issued in 2016, but added those decisions had not been finalised.

英国央行表示，计划于2016年发行带有丘吉尔头像的新版5英镑纸币，但补充说这些决定还没有最终敲定。

It is the BoE governor’s job to pick who to put on new banknotes. During his tenure, Sir Mervyn has also put economist Sir Adam Smith on ·20 notes and industrialists Matthew Boulton and James Watt on ·50 notes.
