荷兰的一家公司最近公布了全球城市拥堵指数排行榜，结果显示，全球交通拥堵程度持续恶化。印度孟买是全球交通最拥堵城市，中国北京排在第30位。

Dutch navigation technology company TomTom has released the results of its latest Traffic Index which provides statistics and information about congestion levels in 403 cities across 56 countries and regions.

Over the past decade, traffic congestion has continued to increase globally with nearly 75% of the cities in the index reporting increased or stable congestion levels between 2017 and 2018.

Last year, Mumbai was the worst city on the planet for traffic chaos where drivers can expect to spend an average of 65% extra travel time stuck in gridlock.

Bogota, Colombia's capital, comes second in the rankings with 63% congestion while Lima in Peru comes third with 57%.

India is present once again at number four with the capital city of New Delhi also struggling with 58% congestion.

Moscow leads Europe in traffic jams and drivers in the Russian capital can expect an extra 56% of their travel time stuck bumper to bumper. Los Angeles has the worst congestion levels in the United States according to TomTom at 41%, followed by New York (36%) and San Francisco (34%).

One positive aspect of congestion is that it's an indicator of a strong global economy. However, it comes with a massive environmental impact and costs commuters huge amounts of time.

Ralf-Peter Schäfer, who is TomTom's VP of Traffic information, said his company "is working towards a future where vehicles are electric, shared and autonomous so that our future really is free of congestion and emissions".
