YORK, England, Dec. 4 -- Chinese number one Ding Junhui beat compatriot Xiao Guodong 6-4 to reach the last 16 at the UK Snooker Championship here on Tuesday.
Ding, who won the event in 2005 and 2009, made breaks of 99, 74 and 84 to pull ahead 3-0 before Xiao scored two centruries to level at 3-3.
The next two frames were shared then Ding made a crucial 31 clearance to edge 5-4 ahead before sealing the result in frame ten with runs of 34 and 50.
Ding, ranked eighth in the world, will next take on Englishman Martin O'Donnell, who is the world number 59.
"I started well and then I struggled for a while," said Ding. "Once I got to 5-4 I had to go for it. I feel I am playing better with each match."

Fu, who has been recovering from an eye surgery, dropped the first three frames but managed to close to 4-3 in the next four with a top run of 119. But Lisowski got the better of two scrappy frames to seal victory.
