BERLIN, Oct. 7 -- Leipzig jumped on the second place of the standings after whitewashing newly promoted Nuremberg 6-0 at home to end the 7th round of Bundesliga on Sunday.
The "Bulls" showed no mercy and overran Nuremberg, as braces from Timo Werner and Marcel Sabitzer were enough to sink the newly promoted side.
Nuremberg caught the worst possible start on the road as Kevin Kampl slotted home Timo Werner's square pass to open the scoring with just three minutes played.
It took the hosts only four more minutes to double the lead after Yussuf Poulsen tapped home from very close range to shock the visitors.
Leipzig dominated and continued to press forward meanwhile Nuremberg were unable to put up resistance. Thus, Marcel Sabitzer unleashed a shot from sharp angle to beat Nuremberg goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow for the 3-0 lead into the near post corner in the 21st minute.
Ralf Ragnick's men pressed relentlessly and made it 4-0 before the half time as Timo Werner benefitted on a blocked shot to score from 14 meters in the 32nd minute.
After the restart, Leipzig extended the lead through Marcel Sabitzer, who wrapped up his brace with a 25-meter long range effort, 10 minutes into the second half.
Teammate Timo Werner sewed up his brace as well after poking home Poulsen's cross for the 6-0 lead in the 59th minute.
Things went from bad to worse for the newly promoted side as Tim Leibold saw a straight red card for a professional foul play to Werner four minutes later.
Despite their numerical advantage Leipzig failed to add more goals to their lead as they lacked in accuracy in the closing period.
"We played into Leipzig's hands and that is how we got punished today," Nuremberg's sporting director Andreas Bornemann said.
With the win, Leipzig climbed from the 6th to the 2nd place and Nuremberg slumped from the 10th to the 12th position.
