During my elementary school years, I used to compare my mom with my best friend Tiffany's mom. Tiffany's mom always gave her lots of money to buy the most fashionable clothes and favorite food. Her mom allowed her to do anything she liked. I really admired Tiffany. My mom didn't give me much pocket money and she always told me that I should behave myself. I was annoyed with her. Whenever I didn't get what I wanted, I would complain to my mom, Tiffany's mom would give her that! I wish she were my mom. Every time, my mom would calmly say "Poor Tiffany". I couldn't understand her. "She shouldn't be feeling sorry for Tiffany!" I thought, "She should be feeling sorry for me." One day, I couldn't help saying to Mom, "Poor Tiffany? Lucky Tiffany! She gets everything she wants! Why do you feel sorry for her?" I burst into tears.
My mom sat down next to me and said softly, "Yes, I do feel sorry for her. I have been teaching you a lesson that she will never be taught." I looked up at her, "What are you talking about?" Mom said with care, "One day she will really want something. Maybe she'll find out that she can't have it. Her mother won't always be around to give her money, and what's more, money can't buy everything." She continued, "I have taught you valuable lessons by not giving you everything you want. You'll know how to look for bargains and save money, but she won't. You'll understand that you need to work hard to get the things that you want but she won't. When Tiffany is a grown woman, she'll wake up one day and she will be wishing that she had a mom like the one you've got. Life lessons are more important than modern clothes and delicious food." It took some time, but I eventually understood my mom's words. Now I am a happy and successful woman. 28. During the author's elementary school years, she
.
A. wished that her mom were as good as Tiffany's
B. went to school with Tiffany every day
C. usually compared her lesson with Tiffany's
D. sometimes gave lots of money to Tiffany 29. Why did the author's mom always say "Poor Tiffany"?
A. She felt sorry for Tiffany because Tiffany was poor.
B. She wanted to tell a lie to comfort the author.
C. She thought that Tiffany was spoiled by her mother.
D. She told the author this and wanted her to help Tiffany. 30. What do we learn about the author's mother?
A. She was strict and taught the author to be independent.
B. She cared for other people's children more than her own.
C. She thought that life lessons were as important as money.
D. She was so poor that she couldn't give the author much money. 31. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The author was quite annoyed with her mother in the past.
B. The author's mother felt sorry for Tiffany.
C. Tiffany's mother took the author's mother's advice.
D. The author is thankful to her mother now.
D
These days it's more important than ever to be a good neighbor. There are places where I lived in the past and where I didn't even know my neighbors' names. I am fortunate enough now to live in an area where not only do I know my neighbors but I like them.
Some of the reasons why it's important to be a good neighbor are simple.
● They may take in your mail and papers for you while you're away.
● They look out for your home when you're on vacation and notify(告知) you if there is something wrong.
● You can always borrow that cup of sugar that you need on a Sunday morning when you just don't feel like driving to the store.
Those are the obvious reasons but more importantly, being a good neighbor just makes you feel good. My neighbor recently had knee surgery(外科手术) and I've taken out his trash for the last three weeks. He mows my lawn (草坪)for me in the summers so it's a win-win. One night my car ran out of gas and who did I call? My neighbor was there with a gallon of gas in no time.
If you have never lived next to bad neighbors, you may take the good ones for granted. It is not until you move away from your college neighbors partying all night who leave beer cans in the yard that you really appreciate the good ones who are quiet and keep the yard clean.
If you have elderly or sick neighbors, take a moment to see what they need. You can clean their driveways for them, or maybe they need to mail letters. These things make for wonderful neighbors and some of these neighbors may turn into lifelong friends.
32. How does the author feel about his present neighbors?
A. Angry. B. Proud. C. Disappointed. D. Satisfied.
33. What can we learn from Paragraph 6?
A. Being a good neighbor makes us happy.
B. The author’s neighbor broke his car..
C. Being a good friend does us no good.
D. The author was unwilling to help his neighbor.
34.The author develops the seventh paragraph mainly by
.
A. explaining his decisions B. comparing different situations
C. criticizing bad neighbors D. showing his habits
35.The passage is designed to tell us about
.
A. the importance of good neighbors
B. the true meaning of friendship
C. the things we can do for our neighbors
D. the ways to tell good neighbors from bad ones

Gone are the days when men and women couldn’t associate(交住) with each other. 3.________ If we want to deal with the association between boys and girls properly, here are some dos and don'ts for you to follow.
● Keep a normal and healthy state of mind .
It is very natural for the boys and girls to contact each other and build up the friendship with the students of the other sex. 37.________ We should make as many friends as possible. We should have more friends of the other sex instead of one or two.
● Contact students of the other sex warmly, generously and sincerely. 38.________ In that case it is very difficult for you to make a lot of friends, as no one likes a person who is too shy to say a word. If you are too shy a person, you can also find a way out. ● Don't fall into the ditch(泥潭) of early love.
The boys and girls at adolescence are rich in feelings and full of imagination. They are easy to regard the friendship as a sign of love and fall in love with each other at an early age. In my opinion, boys and girls at middle school are too young and too tender to shoulder the heavy duty of love.

W: I will help you.
(Text 10)
M: I’m excited. Tomorrow my mother’s going to arrive at the San Francisco Airport. She’s coming to us for two weeks. She’s coming from Osaka, Japan. Today I’m going to clean my apartment because she’s going to stay with me. Tomorrow, I’m going to pick her up. Then, we’re going to drive to my sister’s house. We’re going to have dinner with all of our friends and family that live in the Bay Area. On Saturday, we’re going to get up late. After a late breakfast, my sister and I are going to show her the beautiful city of San Francisco. We’re going to take a cable car ride. Then, I’m going to take her to my girlfriend’s house. We want to get married next year, so I want my mother to meet her. I hope she likes her.
