ADae Jon is the city in South Korea, where I was born and grew up. There was a public park there. It was a very popular place, and I have tons of precious (珍贵的) memories from times spent there.
Our teachers often took us to that park for a spring or fall picnic. When I learned martial arts (武术)—Tae Kwon Do, my master usually took us there to train us. There was a hill there which was not high, so I could reach the peak (山顶) within forty minutes even though I was very young. From the peak, I could see a lot of places if it was a sunny day.
There was a huge rock on the top called Eagle Rock because the shape of the rock looked like the head of an eagle. We spent lots of fun days there. We played hide-and-seek within the limited area, and we sometimes caught frogs and fish in the pond. When we felt thirsty, we enjoyed drinking cold spring water.
When I was a ten-year-old boy, I usually went to the park with my father to exercise early in the morning. It was quite dark, so I sometimes felt afraid, but after I got used to going there, I enjoyed breathing the fresh air and hearing the birds sing.
Recently, I went back to the park to remember my good times there. When I arrived at the entrance, I was surprised because it didn’t seem to be the same as I remembered it. Everything has changed in the thirteen years since I last saw it, but the good memories soon came back. I could almost imagine a boy playing there with a slight smile and shaking hands with me.

Alice’s mother died when she was five. Although her brothers and sisters were loving and caring, their love couldn’t take the place of a mother’s. In 1925 Alice became my mother and told me that her family couldn’t even afford her a doll.
One afternoon in December 1982, when I was getting ready for Christmas, I suddenly decided to buy two dolls, one for my five-year-old daughter, Katie, and one for my old mother.
Things went smoothly when a friend had told me that his dad, who played Santa Claus in my area, would be willing to make a visit on Christmas morning to our home with the gifts! Knowing that my parents would also come to my house, I began to get ready for the most memorable day of my mother’s life.
Christmas Day arrived and so did Santa Claus at the planned time. Katie was very excited and happy all the time to welcome the Santa. My mother was enjoying watching Katie welcoming this special guest. As Santa turned to leave he looked again into his bag and took out one more gift. As he asked who Alice was, my mother, without thinking of her name being called, said that she in fact was Alice. Santa handed her the gift with a message card that read:
For Alice:
I was cleaning out my sleigh (雪橇) before my trip this year and came across this package that should be sent on December 25, 1925. The gift inside has aged, but I felt that you might still wish to have it. Many apologies for the lateness of the gift.
Love,
Santa Claus

On Christmas Eve a few years ago an English couple received a very special telephone call. It was only a 20-second call but it was very important. The Haydens’ 15-year-old daughter had disappeared six months before. On Christmas Eve she rang them. “I’m phoning to wish a happy Christmas,” she said, “I love you.”
Ronals and Edwine Hayden were so happy that they started a special telephone service called “Alive and Well”. The service helps parents to get in touch with children who have run away from home.
Young people can phone “Alive and Well” and leave a message for their parents. The telephones are answered by answering machines. So no one can speak to the child of making him return home.
Parents of runaway children who are under eighteen can ask the police to bring their children home, so children do not want to tell their parents where they are. Through “Alive and Well” they can telephone their parents without worrying about this or giving out their addresses.
The Haydens and their helpers write down the tape recorded telephone messages and connect the address given. Many of the 30,000 British teenagers who have left home are probably in London. 写作
As you are growing, you may want to be free from your parents and feel ready to make your own decisions. However, your parents will disagree with you. Your relationship with your parents may be in trouble right now. Here are some tips for you to avoid quarrels with your parents.
Discuss the rules ahead of time and not at the last minute. This way you will be able to tell what they will say yes or no to before you make plans.
Try to remain calm when your parents say no to something. You’d better listen to what they have to say instead of quarreling with them.
Spend time with your family. Communicate with each other at home. Suggest activities that your whole family will enjoy together such as going for a hike, a bike ride, or going to the beach.

W: Excuse me, sir, but have you seen a young gentleman looking for his wristwatch?
M: A young man, madam?
W: Yes, about 21 years old.
Text2
M: Good morning, madam. What can I do for you?
W: Good morning. I want some beef, please.
M: How much do you want?
W: Half a pound, please.
Text3
W: Oh, I have only thirty minutes. I’m going to meet a friend in Jamestown at ten. I’m afraid I’ll never make it on my bike.
M: I am going to Jamestown. I’ll give you a lift if you’d like.
Text4
W: I just bought some grape juice but I can’t find it now. Do you know where it is?
M: I broke the bottle. Didn’t you hear the crash?
Text5
M: According to Professor Thompson, languages have slowly developed from old forms into new ones.
W: That’s my opinion, too. We can always find new words and new expressions in English.
M: Perhaps that’s why new dictionaries are published about every five years.
Text6
W: Hey, Bob, I don’t suppose you could lend me some money, could you? I left my wallet at home and I don’t have enough to get lunch.
M: I’m really sorry, Jane, but I only have a few dollars myself. Have you tried asking David? He might be able to help you out.
W: Well, I suppose I could, but I don’t really know him all that well. I’d feel a little awkward asking him for money. You couldn’t ask him for me, could you?
M: I don’t think so. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if you asked him.

W: Hello, David.
M: Good morning, Mrs Smith.
W: I suppose you’re going off to play football today.
M: No, not today. I’m going to a friend’s house to trade stamps. It is my favorite hobby.
W: I collected stamps when I was a kid, too. I still have my whole collection. If you are interested, you can bring yours over and we can compare collections.
M: I’d love to. I’m sure you have a few stamps that I’ve never seen before. It might be interesting to see them.
W: I imagine I have a few that will be new to you. I stopped collecting stamps more than 20 years ago, before you were born.
M: That sounds great. When would be a good time for you?
W: Come anytime this evening.
M: Can I bring my friend Jim along?
W: Sure.

W: How’s work today?
M: It’s been a crazy day today. First, I was an hour late. You know, the traffic was really bad. So I got yelled at by my boss.
W: Oh, man.
M: That’s not all. After that, I sat down to work on my computer. But my computer broke down when I was about to go home.
W: Did you save everything?
M: I totally forgot. I just lost a whole day’s work. I worked like a mad man all day and ended up with nothing.
W: It’s not the end of the world. There are always 2 sides to everything. Try to look on the bright side.
M: Is there a bright side!
W: Calm down. Everyone makes mistakes. Just try to learn something from this experience.
M: I promise never to stay up late again.
W: That’s it. See, that’s the bright side of making mistakes. You can always learn something from them.

W: Good afternoon, sir. I’m calling from Lone Hotel. I understand that you’ll be visiting New York soon. As such, we are pleased to invite you to stay in our hotel.
M: Thank you for your invitation, but I think I’d better stick to my regular hotel.
W: Sir, we are having a special offer for guests for our 35th anniversary.
M: My regular hotel, too, has come up with an attractive package for guests.
W: Well, we are offering a 35% discount on our room rates.
M: My regular hotel is offering a 40% discount on rooms.
W: Our 35% discount is for the VIP suite.
M: I see. Well, I don’t intend to stay in a VIP suite.
W: Sir, you will also have an opportunity to win an air ticket to Mauritius plus a week’s stay there…
M: I see, but I just returned from Mauritius three days ago.
W: Very well, sir. I hope you will consider our offer again. If you need further details about our attractive package, please give us a call. Here’s my number, sir…
M: I don’t need your number. Why don’t you save it for someone else?

A man walks into a bar through the front door. He is obviously drunk. After seating himself at a table, he asks the waiter for a drink. The waiter politely informs the man that it appears he has already had plenty to drink and that he will not be served. The drunken man is surprised and angry, and then he stands up and walks out of the front door slowly. Five minutes later, the drunken man walks inside the same bar from the side door and asks for a drink again. Then the waiter comes over and, still politely, but more firmly, refuses to serve him. The waiter asks whether he should call a taxi for him. The drunken man looks at the waiter for a moment with great surprise, and backs himself out of the side door, all the while complaining and shaking his head. Three minutes later, the same drunken man bursts in through the back door of the bar. He bends over a table and orders a drink in a low voice. The waiter comes over and reminds the man that he is clearly too drunk to be served and tells him that he intends to call the police immediately. The surprised drunken man looks at the waiter and cries out, “Man! How many bars do you work at?”
