If you do not use your arm or your legs for some time, they become weak; when you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory works in the same way.

When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong. If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault. But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame, and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever found that some people can’t read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write and they have to remember things; they cannot write down in a little notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories; so their memory is the whole time being exercised. So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people: Practice remembering.

  71. The main reason for one is poor memory is that _______.

  A. his father or mother may have a poor memory

  B. He does not use his name or legs for some time

  C. his memory is not often used

  D. he can’t read or write

  72. If you do not use your arms or legs for some time _______.

  A. you can’t use them any more

  B. they will become stronger

  C. they become weak and won’t become strong until you use them again.

  D. they will become neither stronger nor weaker

  73. Which of the following is NOT true?

  A. Your memory works in the same way as your arms or legs.

  B. Your memory, like your arms or legs, becomes weak if you don’t give it enough chance

  for practice.

  C. Don’t learn how to read and write if you want to have a better memory.

  D. A good memory comes from more practice.

  74. Some people can’t read or write, but they usually have better memories, because ______. A. they have save much trouble

  B. they have saved much time to remember things

  C. they have to use their memories all the time

  D. they can’t write everything in a little notebook

  75. Which is the best title for this passage?

  A. Don’t Stop Using Your Arms Or Legs

  B. How To Have a Good Memory

  C. Strong Arms And Good Memories

  D. Learn From the People

  第四部分:写作(共两节,满分35分)

  第一节:阅读表达(共5 小题,每小题2 分,满分10 分)

  阅读下面的短文,根据短文后的要求答题(请注意问题后的词数要求)

[1]The British are the fattest people in Europe, with one of the world's fastest obesity growth rates, according to a recent report.

[2]The UK comes top out of 20 European Union nations, with almost one in four people so fat that they could face an early grave. Levels of fatness in Scottish children are second worst in the world, behind the US, while children in England are eighth worst.

[3]Overall, in a study of citizens of the 33 richest countries, the UK is fifth behind the US, Mexico, Chile and New Zealand.

[4]Developed nations are getting fatter, warns the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development which produced the report. It claims that the growing costs of healthcare and wasted resources are making obesity a top priority(应优先解决的问题) for many governments. Report author Franco Sassi, a former London School of Economics lecturer, puts the blame on modern lifestyles. He said, ‘'Food is much cheaper than it in the past, in particular food that is not particularly healthy, and people are changing their lifestyles. They have less time to prepare meals and are eating out more in restaurants. There is a frightening increase in obesity.”

[5]According to the report, the lifespan(寿命) of an obese person is up to 10 years ______ a normal-weight person – the same loss of lifespan incurred(引起)by smoking. It shows 24 percent of men and 25 percent of women were rated obese in 2008 in the UK. In addition, 42 percent of men are overweight and so are 32 percent of women, meaning that up to two in three people have their health put at risk by their weight.

[6]In Scotland, latest figures show 35 percent of 12- to 15-year-olds are overweight or obese, compared with 29 percent of children aged five to 17 in England.

  76. What is the main idea of the text? ( no more than 15 words)
