Being an astronaut sounds cool, doesn’t it?In space, they get to do some pretty amazing things, like floating in zero gravity(重力).

However, there are also plenty of things that astronauts can’t do because of their weightless environment, and that’s very sad. What’s worse, they can’t even let their sadness show—because it’s impossible to cry in zero gravity.

Of course, astronauts can still produce tears. But crying is much more difficult in space, reported The Atlantic in January.Without gravity, tears don’t flow downwards out of the eyes as they do here on Earth. This means that when you cry in space, your tears have nowhere to go—they just stick to your eyes.

In May 2011,astronaut Andrew Feustel experienced this during one of his spacewalks.“Tears,” he said,“don’t fall off your eyes...They just kind of stay there.”

Besides making your vision unclear, this can also cause physical pain.Back on Earth, tears are supposed to bring comfort to the eyes. But that’s not the case in space. The space environment dries out astronauts’ eyes, and when tears suddenly wet the eyes,it can cause pain rather than comfort.“My right eye is painful like crazy.” Feustel told his teammate during the walk.

Since gravity doesn’t work in space, astronauts need some extra help to get rid of the tears.Feustel chose to rub his eyes against his helmet to wipe the tears away.Another choice is to just wait.“When the tears get big enough they simply break free of the eyes and float around,” astronaut Ron Parise told The Atlantic.

There are lots of small things—things like crying—that we are so used to on Earth. We usually take them for granted, until they become a problem in a totally different environment, like space. There, astronauts can’t talk to each other directly. They also can’t eat or drink in normal ways. They can’t even burp(打嗝),because there is no gravity to hold the food down in their stomach. If they do burp, they just end up throwing up(呕出) everything in their stomach, according to the UK National Space Center.

Thus, perhaps it’s only space explorers who can honestly say:“Gravity, you’re the best.”

16.What can we conclude from Paragraphs 2 and 3?

A.Astronauts are unable to feel sad in space.

B.Astronauts produce fewer tears in space.

C.Tears produced in space flow down more slowly.

D.Tears produced in space don’t flow downwards.

17.What effect do tears have on astronauts?

  C.They make their vision clearer.

D.They float around and cause trouble.

18.What can the astronaut do to get rid of the tears?

A.Rub his eyes against his helmet to let the tears float forward.

B.Rub his eyes with a hand to let the tears float around.

C.Get the tears big enough to fall off his eyes.

D.Get the tears big enough to break away from his eyes.

19.What’s the secondtolast paragraph mainly about?

A.Suggestions on how astronauts can stay comfortable in space.

B.Other basic things that are difficult to do in space.

C.Why burping is impossible in space.

20.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

A 15yearold boy planned to put a ball covered with petrol into his mouth and set it on fire.He would film the dangerous action and put it on YouTube. And,he hoped to become famous on the Internet.

But things didn’t go the way he imagined. His clothing caught fire, and he was rushed to the hospital with serious bums on his body.

YouTube hosts millions of videos of people attempting dangerous actions. Many of them are by kids and young adults. Some experts say that by hosting these videos,YouTube encourages young viewers to take deadly risks.Research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that more than 180,000 Americans die from accidental injuries each year. That’s one person every three minutes.More than 14,000 of those killed are kids under the age of 19.Is YouTube to blame?

People have always found it interesting to watch others try risky things.Audiences love these kinds of things. Some of the earliest Greek comedies had characters followed by wild animals and knocking into walls. Now,in the age of the Internet, anyone with a camera and a YouTube account can create this kind of ‘fun’.Many viewers, especially teenagers, are influenced by what they see and want to try it themselves.“YouTube has taken the playing in the neighborhood to a worldwide level,” says Clair Mellenthin,a researcher from the Centers.

Supporters of YouTube argue that it isn’t YouTube’s responsibility to examine its content.“Parents should be the ones to make sure that kids are behaving safely,” they say.In fact,YouTube has a rule on content. For example, dangerous activities that have a risk of serious physical harm or death are not allowed.Staff of YouTube, carefully watch the website 24 hours a day, looking for videos that are against their rules. But is this enough?

  19.B [段落大意题。倒数第二段主要讲述了在太空中除了哭不方便,不能正常吃喝,甚至连打嗝都不行,这些都是在太空中不容易做的事,故选B项。]

  Ⅲ.参考范文

  As_for_the_adolescent_students,they_are_undergoing_an_important_stage_of_their_lives,during_which_psychological_problems_are_evitable.

As is shown in the picture, several students are talking with the teacher about their psychological problems. After listening to them, the teacher gives them some professional guidance.

What the picture wants to tell us is that nowadays we,the students have some psychological problems.Faced with fierce competition,we are burdened with a heavy load of study, which makes us stressed and frustrated.Besides, because of conflicts in different personalities, sometimes we can’t get on well with our classmates, which has a negative impact on our interpersonal relationships.Back at home, due to the generation gap,we have different concepts from our parents on many issues, making us easily misunderstood by our parents.

As far as I am concerned, there are several ways to solve the problem.First,we can turn to our teachers for help.We can also relieve our pressure through relaxation and recreation.Only in this way can we develop psychologically and physically.
