Bobbi Kristina Brown's family has been gathered around her since she was hospitalized on Saturday after being found unconscious in the bathtub of her suburban Atlanta townhome.

Whitney Houston's only child is now at Emory University Hospital and is still fighting for her life, as a family statement said on Monday.

Nothing has changed, despite reports that are popping up and painting a more serious picture.

Fox News reported Wednesday that the situation is horrific. “It's now a matter of when the family wants to let go and accept that she's pretty much not going to make it,” a source told FOX411. “They've left it up to the family as to how long they want to keep her alive.”

People Magazine is also reporting that a doctor told Brown's family on Wednesday that nothing more could be done. “Everyone is coming to the hospital to say goodbye,” said a family member.

And the Daily Mail says Brown has been taken off life support.

But Bobby Brown issued a statement late Thursday denying these reports.

“If we issued a statement every time the media published a false report regarding this matter, that's all we would be doing 24 hours a day. This is false, just as is the vast majority of the other reporting that is currently taking place,” he said, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

A source close to the family tells USA TODAY that it's wrong to say the family is gathering to say goodbye, because the family has been there since the beginning, so nothing is any different today for them.

Also, Brown is “not brain dead,” as has been reported.

And, as for other stories saying that the Houston family is feuding with Bobbi Kristina's dad, Bobby Brown? Those aren't true either. They “are NOT fighting,” says our source.

社会文化(阅读理解)由 (2017浙江瑞安高三五月模拟)When Chinese student Du Juan brought her American boyfriend home two years ago to use the toilet, her Japanese roommate became so upset that she shouted in English: “I hate you.”

Du,then 21 and an undergraduate at Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts, was shocked. So was her boyfriend.

“Later I realized that she didn’t literally mean what she said and that she was not aware of the full meaning of the word ‘hate’in English,” said Du.“It was more a problem with translation,” she added.

Cultural differences can cause confusion about what words or even actions mean,an issue that has come to the forefront recently following the arrest of a Chinese doctoral degree student in New Jersey.

Zhai Tiantian, who studied at the Stevens Institute of Technology, has been accused of trying to set fire to a campus building and of making threats to a professor who gave him a low mark.No physical altercation took place but Zhai reportedly said something along the lines of “at worst,I will risk anything on the line.” The professor called the campus police.

According to the indictment sheet(起诉书),Zhai is facing the serious charge of making a terroristic threat.

For a few days,Chinese media mistranslated,or misunderstood the charges and reported that Zhai was being charged with terrorism.

Some language experts have speculated(推测)that the disagreement between Zhai and the professor can also be chalked up to cultural and linguistic differences.“What Chinese people regard as acceptable speeches may be regarded by Americans as threats,” said Luo Gang, the Chinese Consulate’s Overseas Chinese Affairs consul.“This is an unfortunate incident.Even though Zhai intended no harm,he has done himself a great deal of harm.”

Du,now 23,said she supports Zhai’s actions in fighting to save his academic career, but added he needs to learn more about communication in a foreign language.

“Chinese students in a foreign country must prepare more in terms of languages and conversation skills to avoid misunderstandings,” she said.

Fortunately, it’s never too late to get the benefits of quitting. If you’ve tried to quit before and failed, it’s time to make up your mind and try again.

Smoking is responsible for one of every five deaths. That includes 29% of all cancer deaths, 87% of all lung cancer deaths, and nearly 20% of all deaths are from cardiovascular disease. But long before smoking kills you, it ages you. You can see that smoking accelerates the drying and wrinkling of the skin. But there are fewer obvious effects as well. Indeed, smoking takes years away from your life. Nearly half of all chronic smokers die an average of 20 to 25 years before their time.

Besides an early death from cancer or heart disease, smoking can cause lung disorders. People who smoke over a pack a day have almost three times the risk of contracting pneumonia (肺炎) than that of nonsmokers. By lowering levels of estrogen (雌性激素) in men and women, smoking speeds bone less. If a woman smokes a pack of cigarettes every day, she will enter menopause (更年期) with 5% to 10% less bone mass than a nonsmoker.

The good news is that no matter what your age is or how long you’ve smoked, you’ll live longer if you quit today. The Coronary Artery Surgery Study examined nearly 2,000 longterm smokers over the age of 54. Those who quit had significantly lower death rates six years later than those who didn’t. Even the oldest exsmokers had a higher survival rate.

Not only will you live longer if you quit, but you’ll feel better, breathe easier, and find that you have more energy. You’ll have fewer respiratory infections, headaches, and stomachaches. What’s more, you’ll save money. Your clothes and breath won’t smell unpleasant any longer. And your habit won’t annoy, or threaten the health of the people who live and work with you.

33.According to the passage, the percentage of deaths due to smoking is ________.

  A.20% B.25%

  C.29%

  D.87%

34.All of the following methods are used in the passage EXCEPT ________.

  A.giving examples

  B.mentioning famous sayings

  C.comparingD.listing numbers

35.What do we know from the Coronary Artery Surgery Study?

A.It examined about 2,000 smokers who all quit smoking finally.

B.Quitting smoking is easier said than done.

C.longterm smokers who quit smoking can live longer.

D.Quitting smoking has a bad effect on people’s health.
