London has become a cyclefriendly zone after the launch of a new bike hire scheme. It has been designed to encourage more people to cycle in and around central London.
So how does it work?First you have to sign up for the scheme to be sent a key.The key will unlock one of the bikes, which are kept at docking stations in and around central London. You have to pay an access fee for the key and then you pay as you go for the length of time you use the bike.
Transport for London, which runs the scheme,is hoping to have 6,000 bikes and 400 docking stations in place by the end of the year. The new hire system is hoping to ease congestion(拥挤) in London and is expected to create up to 40,000 extra cycle trips a day into the city centre.London Mayor Boris Johnston launched the scheme and said London had been “filled with thousands of gleaming machines that will transform the look and feel of our streets and become as commonplace on our roads as black cabs and red buses”.
However, there have been a few problems since the scheme was launched last Friday. On the first day some people found they couldn’t dock their bikes properly and that their usage of the bikes had not been registered.Transport for London did admit they had been expecting a few ?teething problems? and said they wouldn’t charge for the first day as a ?gesture of goodwill?.Some other people have criticized the lack of docking stations and locks for the bikes as well as the price it costs to hire the bicycles.
Despite the comments, the greenthinking London Mayor still seems very positive about things, saying,“My campaign for the capital to become the greatest big cycling city in the world has taken a big pedalpowered push forwards.”

Do you want a bit of an adventure?Would you like to discover all the corners of the UK,or travel abroad?Maybe you have never tried the motorhome lifestyle before.Well, read this article and you will know why a motorhome is a good choice.
Nothing is better than a motorhome. It has so many uses that it is considered the most versatile vehicle and it is also very comfortable. If you are thinking about hiring a motorhome this summer, then the best choice is to book it early, especially if you are considering the school holidays. The motorhome hire service is very seasonal and motorhome hire companies will never have extra vehicles available in the summer months.
There are a lot of companies throughout the UK,and some of the big ones have motorhomes spread all over the country. At present, the largest network for motorhome hire is provided by Motorhome which is based in Cambridge. If you are in the UK,you may phone 08006128719 for details of its motorhome hire information.Motorhome has a network of over 500 vehicles all over England,Scotland and Wales.
Most people wishing to hire a motorhome are families that are looking for an alternative to a European package holiday, especially as flying now has become more expensive, and is considered to be environmentally unfriendly. There is no doubt that the idea of nofly holidays is going to become more popular as fewer people think it is safe to fly. This explains why more and more people are choosing to hire a motorhome for their holidays.

Have you heard about leap year? Leap year is a year that has 366 days instead of the usual 365.It normally occurs every four years, always on an evennumbered year. The extra day is added to our shortest month. That is the second month of the year, which in nonleap years has 28 days, two fewer than any other month.
9
We also call leap year the bissextile year(闰年).
10
In our calendar
system there is a need for a leap year because the solar year (the time it takes the earth to go around the sun once) is actually slightly more than 365 days long. That extra day—Feb 29 every four years—helps correct the difference between our calendar and the solar calendar.
It is said that leap year was first made part of the calendar by the ancient Roman leader Julius Caesar. His astronomers had calculated the length of the solar year to be 365 days and six hours. So Caesar declared that an extra day be added to the calendar.
11
However,Caesar’s adjustment was not completely accurate because his astronomers’ year exceeded the true solar year by eleven minutes and fourteen seconds.By 1582,a difference of ten days had developed between the calendar year and the true solar year.To correct this error,Pope Gregory XⅢ ruled that every fourth year would continue to be a leap year except for century years that could not be divided evenly by 400.By this system, century years such as 1700,1800,and 1900 were not leap years, but the year 2000 was a leap year.
12
People born on Feb 29 celebrate their growing up a little differently from the rest of us.
13
But if they go strictly by the calendar, they have only onefourth as many birthday celebrations as most people.
A.They acknowledge that they get older each year.
B.When you see Feb 29 on a calendar, you know that year is a leap year.
C.This is its formal,or scientific title.
D.This may seem complicated, but it works.
E.In a leap year, the extra day is added to the second month, giving it 29 instead of the usual 28 days.
F.The leap year was introduced in the Julian calendar in 46 BC.
G.This is done every four years.
