The results were unexpected.
Over the course of the following months, the Tweenbots were successful in rolling from their start point to their far-away destination assisted only by strangers. Every time a Tweenbot got caught under a park bench, or became trapped in a pothole, some passerby would always rescue it and send it toward its goal. Never once was a Tweenbot lost or damaged. Often, people would ignore the instructions to aim the Tweenbot in the “right” direction, if that direction meant sending the robot into a dangerous situation. One man turned the robot back in the direction from which it had just come, saying out loud to the Tweenbot, “You can’t go that way. It’s toward the road.”
The Tweenbot’s presence in the city created an unexpected interaction. The journey the Tweenbots take each time they are released in the city becomes a story of people’s willingness to engage with a creature that mirrors human characteristics of vulnerability, and of having intention without the means of achieving its goal alone. As each encounter with a pedestrian takes a Tweenbot one step closer to reaching its destination, the significance of our random discoveries and individual actions accumulates into a story about a vast space made small by an even smaller robot.
()36. How did the Tweenbot ask people for help?
A. By smiling at them.
B. By asking them the way.
C. By rolling in front of them.
D. By showing them its destination. 36.D。根据“Tweenbots have a destination displayed on a flag, and rely on people they meet to read this flag and to aim them in the right direction to reach their goal.”可确定答案。
()37. According to the passage, Tweenbots were designed to be ________.
A. kind-hearted
B. strong-willed
C. human-dependent
D. hard-working
37.C。根据短文内容可知,Tweenbots被设计成只能直行,需要靠行人不断摆正方向才能到达目的地,实验的目的是看人们是否会出手相助。
()38. The results of the test were unexpected because the author had thought the Tweenbots ________.
A. might get no help
B. would not try their best
C. had to go a long way
D. would fight against people
38.A。根据“Given their extreme vulnerability (弱点) and the possibility that no one would be interested in helping a lost little robot, I initially thought that the Tweenbots were more likely to struggle and die in the city than to reach their destination.”可确定答案。
()39. We can infer that the man turned the Tweenbot back in the opposite direction because ________. A. he was afraid it might lose its way
B. he was afraid it might be run over by a car C. he found the instructions were wrong D. he found it was going against the instructions 39.B。根据“a dangerous situation”可推断答案。

It is an unfortunate but very real fact that anxiety in children is a common problem in today’s activity-packed society. They often get anxious and nervous due to various types of anxiety.
Children with generalized anxiety disorder, or GAD, will worry too much about a variety of things such as grades, family issues, and relationships with peers. They have great fear of making mistakes and tend to be very hard on themselves. They often expect the worst, even when there is not any reason for concern.
Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) means that children have problems with performance and social situations. This can cause problems at school and interfere with their education. These children often wish they had more friends but find it hard to do the things that are required to make new friends. For them it’s better not to take the risk they will be rejected.
When children experience extreme anxiety in public places, such as school or church, to the point of consistently refusing to speak in those situations, but can talk normally in other settings where they feel comfortable (typically home), they may be suffering from Selective Mutism. Parents are sometimes surprised to learn from a teacher that their child refuses to speak at school.
Anxiety in children should always be given special treatment. Parents should remain patient when the child becomes anxious about a situation or event. Any situation which may cause anxiety in your child should be planned for ahead of time. It’s important to praise your child for facing challenges. Some children like big loud praises; others like a quiet pat on the back.
In school, frequent encouragement of the child is a key strategy to deal with anxiety in children. Special care is taken for children whose anxiety is due to school phobias (恐惧症). In this case, teachers should allow extra time for late arrival, or slow responses to work. Teachers should also monitor changes and behavior in the classroom to inform parents of any progress or problems. 【答案】 41.Anxiety in Children 42.various things / varieties of things 43.fearing making mistakes 44.no reason for 45.finding it hard 46.feels comfortable 47.Treatment 48.anxious 49.planning for 50.encouraging the child Section B (10 marks) Directions: Read the following passage. Believe it or not, one of the most important communication skills is silence! You may be the finest speaker around, but if you don’t listen carefully when others speak, you’re losing out in a big way. Good communication requires not only speaking your piece, but the exchange of ideas is an essential component. Read on for some tips to improve listening skills. You’ll soon gain a reputation as a great conversationalist!
Many people fail to recognize the importance of improving listening skills in making friends. They love to talk about themselves. It’s only natural—we all have a lot to say about ourselves and our interests, right? But asking questions of another person is a good way to break the ice and make friends. And it’s also an excellent way for you to learn something new.
Let’s say you’re invited to a party where you don’t know many of the guests. Make a point to go and talk to the girl wearing a Save the Whales T-shirt. Although this person may be shy, try to draw her out of her shell. Ask her a question about the whale’s plight (困境). It’s likely you’ll make a new friend as well as learn several new facts.
In the class that you’re sure will put you to sleep, try listening closely to what the speaker is saying. Chances are good that you only find it dull because the speaker doesn’t communicate well or you are simply not interested. Ask a question that makes the speaker want to clarify his point. You’ll not only find your listening skills improving, but you’ll also benefit the speaker and probably receive a better grade!
In short, the best way to improve listening skills is to really engage yourself in conversation. Immerse your thinking in learning what others think. You’ll not only make some new acquaintances, but you’ll also be truly amazed at what you learn! 51. What does “silence” in the first sentence of the passage really mean? (No more than 8 words)

In New York, we are very occupied with getting from one place to another. On the way, imagine you encounter (遇到) a tiny, cardboard robot making its own way down the streets of New York City, asking for help. Would you help this lost little robot?
Tweenbots are smiling 10-inch-tall robots that get around the city with the help of pedestrians they encounter. Rolling at a constant speed, in a straight line, Tweenbots have a destination displayed on a flag, and rely on people they meet to read this flag and to aim them in the right direction to reach their goal.
Given their extreme vulnerability (弱点) and the possibility that no one would be interested in helping a lost little robot, I initially thought that the Tweenbots were more likely to struggle and die in the city than to reach their destination. I set out on the first test with a video camera hidden in my purse and walked far enough away so that I would not be observed.
