What I Hate
I always listen to my friends' problems and try to give them good advice, but there are some things that just get under my skin.
My numberone annoyance is my friends who don't get along with their parents.Left and right I hear “I hate my mom,” “I hate my dad,” “My parents are so stupid,” “They don't care about me.” I think they don't know what they're saying!
What kids need to understand is that regardless of whether you have a boyfriend, girlfriend,or even a best friend, your parents care about you the most.If that is hard to believe, think about this:How did you get a roof over your head,a bed to sleep in,food to eat,and most of all,a place to call home?
If that's not enough, let's continue.Look in your bedroom.Where did you get all that stuff?Your bed,the clothes in the closet, the blankets that keep you warm,or all the nonessentials.I bet most of it came from your parents.
I'm sick of hearing how your parents do “nothing” for you. They probably do more than you do for yourself.Consider that next time you start criticizing your parents, who also gave you life.
So many times I have heard friends complain about their dads.“He is so overprotective—he never lets me do anything.” I simply think,at least ______.Think about kids who don't.My father died in an accident three years ago.I'd always been “daddy's girl”,which makes things even harder to manage.
So,please stop before you say “I hate,” especially if it's about a parent, and think about those of us who aren't lucky enough to have two caring parents.

[1]Electronic devices(装置)are changing the way people listen to music. But studies show the devices may be causing hearing loss in many people. Some experts say people may be playing them too loud and for too long. And experts say sound levels on these devices need to be set lower.
[2]Researchers did a study with three hundred high school students and one thousand adults. They were asked about their use of portable music devices.Forty percent of the students and adults said they set the sound levels high on their players. But students were twice more likely to play the music at a very loud volume.More than half of the students said they would not probably limit listening time.
[3]The study found that more than half of the students and less than forty percent of the adults had at least one kind of hearing loss. Some reported difficulty hearing parts of a discussion between two people.Others said they had to raise the volume on a television or radio to hear it better. And,some experienced ringing in their ears or other noises.
[4]Hearing experts say part of the problem is the listening equipment people are using._They say larger earphones that cover the whole ear are probably safer than smaller earphones that come with most music players.Hearing loss may not be obvious for years, however, once it happens, there is little chance of curing.About thirty million Americans have some hearing loss. One third of them lost their hearing as a result of loud noises.
[5]The American SpeechLanguageHearing Association is working with companies and government officials on setting rules for the use of portable music devices. The group says the best way to protect your hearing is to______,limit listening time and use earphones that block out outside noises.

[1] What is the single largest cause of sick leave in the UK?The answer is not the common cold or flu,but back pain.Back pain affects one in three British adults, costs the country over £5 billion every year and is extremely difficult to treat.
[2] But now Britain's National Health Service (NHS) will be offering a new solution: acupuncture (针灸).The ancient Chinese needle treatment has been around in the UK for many years, but this is the first time it has been officially supported.
[3] Traditionally, doctors in the UK have advised back pain sufferers to stay active,do stretching exercises and take painkillers when necessary. In more serious cases some people are given Xray treatment or injections.
[4] The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE),however, say there is evidence that acupuncture may __________ than expensive Xrays or injections,so patients who have been suffering for over six weeks should be given a choice. As an alternative to acupuncture, patients will be able to opt for either a course of spinal manipulation (脊椎推拿),or a series of special exercise sessions.
[5] In the UK,acupuncture is classed as a complementary treatment, which is the term given to a medical procedure which hasn't gone through the strict trials by which scientists prove some treatments work.
[6] While many experts have welcomed the move to make acupuncture available on the NHS,some are still sceptical about its effectiveness.Research from the US earlier this month found that simulated acupuncture using toothpicks which do not make a hole in the skin could be as good as using real needles. So while some are yet to be convinced, back pain sufferers will be hoping that acupuncture helps get them feeling healthy and mobile again.Employers,on the other hand, will be hoping it gets them back to work.
