Fluminense's Emerson scored the game's only goal, guaranteeing the team's title.
After a long and scoreless first half, Fluminense returned to the field in the second half under heavy expectation. Finally, in the 61st minute, Emerson capitalized on a loose ball directly in front of the Guarani net after Washington redirected a Carlinhos crossed ball.
Amid the confusion, Emerson cleanly knocked the ball into the net, giving his team what would be the tournament-winning goal.
Fluminense was forced to win the match in order to preserve its leadership in the 38th and last round of the running-point tournament.

Head coach Muricy Ramalho celebrates his fourth national title. Vanderlei Luxemburgo is the only coach to have won more Brazilian Championship titles, winning five times.
