World No. 3 Novak Djokovic set up a semifinal clash with world No. 2 Roger Federer as the Serbian defeated American Andy Roddick in straight sets in the last group match at the ATP World Tour Finals on Friday.
Djokovic, 23, lost four times in a row to Roddick since last year's Australian Open quarterfinals, but took control early in the match on Friday to wrap it up 6-2, 6-3.
"I knew I had to be kind of in a control of the rallies, and I did that. I needed to get a lot of returns back. I did that, as well. I was using the forehands quite well. So just happy with overall performance," said Djokovic, who advanced into the semifinals as the second finisher in Group A with two wins and one defeat.
Earlier, world No. 1 Rafael Nadal managed to top the group by claiming his third consecutive win. The Spaniard defeated the sixth seed Tomas Berdych from Czech 7-6 (3), 6-1, making the Wimbledon final repeat get the same result.
"It's a very good end of the season no matter what will be the result of tomorrow," said Nadal who is going to fight for a final place with British top player Andy Murray on Saturday.
"For me, finishing the season winning all the matches in the group, three victories against top eight players in probably the most difficult surface for me, is unbelievable now."
After Nadal's duel with Murray, Djokovic is going to face Swiss legend Federer, whom he defeated in the semifinals of this year's U.S. Open but lost to in the last two encounters.
"Last two times I have lost against him, but close matches. So I will try to step it up and take my chances and hope to prevail," said Djokovic.
