In the rain of Porto Alegre, Internacional beat Flamengo 1-0 at home on Sunday in the 11th round of the Brazilian Championship.
The game marked the return of club idol Rafael Sobis to Internacional as well as head coach Celso Roth's fourth straight win since assuming the post.
Playing with a mixed team of reserve players and starters, Internacional was able to score early in the match and secure the lead for the remainder of the game.
Taison dribbled towards the Flamengo goal and fired a ball at the top of the penalty box that sailed into the upper corner of goalkeeper Marcelo Lombo in the fifth minute.
The win takes Internacional to third place with 19 points. On July 28 the team will receive Sao Paulo in the first leg of the semifinals of the 2010 Libertadores Cup.
Flamengo slipped two positions, landing in seventh place with 16 points. In the 12th round of play, Flamengo will host Vasco da Gama while Internacional receives rival Gremio on August 1.
