　　background是个复合词：back(后面)+ground(场所)。它还可引申为“出身，经历”等意。 考点不多，但上面的句子一定要记住。

　　baggage是美国的用法，相当于英国人说的luggage。

　　他带着简单的行李离开了家。

　　①baggage为不可数名词，“一件行李”要说a piece of baggage或an article of baggage，“很多行李”为a large amount of baggage。

　　ballpoint n. 圆珠笔

　　我们早已知道“铅笔”是pencil，“钢笔”是pen，可“圆珠笔”如何表达呢?ballpoint就是“圆珠笔”。

　　ballpoint是复合词：ball(球)+point(点)，在笔尖有圆球的笔就是“圆珠笔”，很容易理解。

　　[特征]

　　ban多指官方指令禁止某事，要注意和ban搭配使用的介词。

　　banned books 禁书 an alcohol ban 禁酒令

　　- There is a ban on smoking in hospital.=Smoking is banned in hospital.

　　医院里禁止吸烟。 (在某方面的禁令，用介词on)
